Crowdfunding Football: Fighting back through the crowd

Making a difference in football with crowdfunding

Hundreds of football clubs are turning to crowdfunding during the pandemic, working with supporters on a range of innovative campaigns to generate essential revenue and drive meaningful fan engagement.

They are all shining a spotlight on the vital role that clubs play in our communities.

The business of football is unique and the continued uncertainty around its possible resumption hasn't helped with financial and marketing planning.

Club officials are working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep clubs afloat.

But the comeback is on, spearheaded by the fans and Crowdfunder has played an important part of that.

We have waived all of our platform fees for clubs during the pandemic, meaning you keep more of what you raise.

And we have almost £3 million in +Extra Funding from Sport England to pledge up to £10,000 on grassroots campaigns during the pandemic.

We have almost £3 million for grassroots sports clubs affected by Covid-19

How Newquay AFC fought back through Crowdfunder

Like all grassroots clubs, Newquay AFC was hit hard by Covid-19. The stadium was already in a poor state and they were running out of money so the Peppermints turned to Crowdfunder, rallying their community around a project to refurbish their facilities at Mount Wise Stadium.

The effort caught the eye of Sport England, who work with Crowdfunder to put extra funding into things that improve the sustainability of the grassroots game. Their £4,000 pledge was followed by a £250 contribution from Cornwall Council, bringing the final total to more than £10,000.

Now there's a new buzz around the club, who are already thinking about what comes next.
