Making Scotland an international hub for the development and application of innovative sports technologies

Sports Technology is one of the world's fastest growing sectors

Scotland is in pole position

SportsTech Scotland is in the driving seat

Scottish sports technology is on the cusp of something great. With our world class universities, thriving tech ecosystem and nation of sports fanatics, we have the groundworks for a globally competitive sector.

But we're not perfect. Compared with some of the world's top sportstech ecosystems, our companies are not well connected: to the international market, to domestic sports clubs and to other stakeholders in the Scottish sportstech sector.

SportsTech Scotland brings our nation's sports technology stakeholders into the same forum and makes sure they are expending the right resources into the right channels, targeting the sporting world's most important trends and challenges.

What is SportsTech?

The international sports market is booming.

Behind it lies a burgeoning industrial sector which has pledged to take sports into the next era - Sports Technology.

At SportsTech Scotland, we consider 'sportstech' to refer to any innovative product or service, grounded in science, which meets a demonstrable market need for physically competitive endeavours.

In general, it can be divided into three segments:

  • Solutions for Fans
  • Solutions for Athletes
  • Solutions for Executives

Why Scotland?

Home of the television, the telephone, and an array of economic and medical innovations which helped to thrust our world into the modern era: Scotland is a powerhouse of invention.

Home to several of the world's strongest sportstech companies, including unicorn FanDuel, we are now carving ourselves a niche in one world's fastest growing sectors.

1741274947_fdf.jpg

We have a fertile ground for growing the sector, including a formidable array of National Governing Bodies such as Scottish Hockey, the Scottish Football Association and the Scottish Rugby Union, undergirded by the work of Sportscotland.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We bring all of Scotland's sports technology stakeholders into the same forum and make sure that they are expending the right resources into the right channels, targeting the sporting world's most important trends and challenges.

We are unique within the UK market, but some of our international friends have provided us with our initial frameworks: think of Sports Tech HQ, Profluence and ISTA (USA); Lead (Germany); ASTN (Australia); GSIC and HYPE (international).

We DISCOVER

  • Researching the key challenges and trends, both within domestic and overseas sports market
  • Engaging with the 'owners' of those challenges & trends, whether they be federation, governing bodies, sports clubs or learning institutions
  • Communicating our findings to our members and partners

We DEVELOP

  • Helping our existing sportstech companies to redirect their offerings towards the most pertinent trends
  • Attracting overseas sportstech companies into the Scottish ecosystem
  • Developing new companies within our Startup Studio

Our 3 pillars guide everything that we do, and help us to carve out Scotland's place as an international laboratory for the application of cutting edge sportstech solutions. Our companies build their solutions within our ecosystem, refine them, then target opportunities around the sporting world.

Our team is experienced, dynamic and excited to take the sector to the next level. More importantly, we are super well-networked.

We bring together stakeholders from across the Scottish sportstech sector - and beyond - to make sure that we are ideally positioned for the coming revolution in sports.

Our ambitions are global, so we partner with the best in the world.
