Ensuring that poor people have access to high quality healthcare requires a qualified workforce of doctors, nurses, midwifes and pharmacists.
Tanzania has one of the lowest ratio of doctors to patients anywhere in the world. For every 20,000 people, there is only 1 trained doctor. That's less than Syria and Yemen.
Afghanistan = 5.08
Bangladesh = 13.34
Iraq = 19.92
Tanzania = 1.02
Syria = 25.74
Pakistan = 22.36
Yemen = 10.5

Kijana Kwanza sponsors children and young people up to the age of 25 years to acquire an education or vocational training including a range of healthcare subjects.
Sponsored students receive the full cost of their tuition, accommodation on-site and meals as well as the support of trained welfare and educational staff. The annual cost of training a healthcare professional is £2,500 per year with each course lasting a minimum of 3 years.
So far Kijana Kwanza has 5 healthcare students in training, and over the next 3 years they plan to increase this to 25 students.
All graduates of Kijana Kwanza's vocational training programme must commit to community service and to repay 10% of their salary for the next 3 years back to our vocational training fund.
