Get up to £15,000 to improve physical activity opportunities for your community

Crowdfunder and Sport England have teamed up to make match funding available to help get more people active, reduce the number of inactive people and tackle inequalities.

We’re encouraging not for profit organisations who play an important role in keeping their community physically active to get involved.

Projects that provide opportunities for groups facing barriers for activity are of particular interest, as well as projects in communities identified as having the greatest need for activity programmes.

Improving physical activity for people and communities who need it most.

You need a crowdfunding project to apply for funding. Start or continue adding your project and, if eligible, you'll be prompted to apply.

Movement Fund - Sport England’s Extra Funding Scheme to help improve physical activity for people and communities who need it most.

The Movement Fund offers crowdfunding pledges, grants and resources to improve physical activity opportunities for the people and communities who need it the most. If your project aligns with our priorities, we can fund a wide range of costs and items up to £15,000.

Our focus is to support projects that match our goal of getting more people active, reducing the number of inactive people and tackling inequalities. This means our investments support the objectives of our strategy, Uniting the Movement.

At the core of the Movement Fund is its dedication to constant improvement, informed by everything we learn from the projects we fund.

Funding priorities:

Projects that provide opportunities for groups facing barriers to activity are of particular interest, such as:

  • people living on low incomes
  • disabled people or those with long-term health conditions
  • older people
  • people from culturally diverse communities
  • pregnant women and parents with very young children
  • girls aged 5-16
  • LGBTQ+ people
  • people who are in foster care
  • people who provide care without pay
  • projects in communities identified as having the greatest need for activity programmes

What makes a good project?

Alongside your great ideas to get more people active, we also look to see projects that also:

  • Encourage positive experiences in sports and physical activity
  • Involve the community in planning and delivery
  • Prioritise environmental sustainability
  • Are a good use of public money

What we can fund

The Movement Fund supports projects that promote physical activity, including active travel, walking, cycling, dance, fitness, and sporting activities.

Here are some other things our funding could cover:

  • Buying new equipment
  • Upgrading equipment
  • Refurbishing or upgrading facilities
  • Developing leadership and capability
  • Staffing costs for new projects
  • Emergency relief

Pledge Criteria

If your application is approved, you’ll get match funding of 50% towards your initial crowdfunding target, up to a maximum of £15,000.

1) raise at least 25% of your initial target,

2) raise this from a minimum number of supporters

3) following receipt of a pledge you will also need to reach 100% of your initial funding target to receive the funds from Sport England.

Note – Sport England reserve the right to vary these pledge criteria; projects will be notified if their pledge criteria will vary from the stated terms above.

Before completing your application please read the full Eligibility and Pledge Criteria.

Funded projects will be required to agree to the Award Conditions.
