Established in 2016, RWNS started as a group of local people collecting aid for those in camps in Northern Europe and beyond. Volunteers have since worked with North Somerset Council to ready houses for vulnerable families arriving under the government’s resettlement schemes. We now run welcome hubs across 5 locations and provide enhanced casework for the most vulnerable.
RWNS offers friendship and support to refugees and asylum seekers across North Somerset.
Our work includes:
- Welcome Hubs – safe spaces for education and social events for resettled refugees and newly arrived sanctuary seekers. Each hub meets local need and allows the established community to welcome new arrivals with friendship and practical support.
- Case work for those deemed especially vulnerable due to homelessness, unmet health need, pregnancy and new babies.
- Next Gen youth club, providing community and creativity for displaced young people.
- Welcome Meals - offering warm nutritious meals, and a taste of home. This also provides opportunities for people to volunteer and gain experience in catering and hospitality.
