Due to ongoing need, we are continuing our fundraising for emergency housing for refugees in North Somerset.
This winter the Home Office is focussing on clearing a backlog of years of asylum cases and closing hotels. Positive decisions and leave to remain come with the almost impossible challenge to move on in as little as seven days!
Imagine having 7 days to find a job and somewhere to live. When you don't speak the language well, you don't understand the process and you are dealing with some pretty traumatic events that led you to this point. Individuals without children are rarely found to be a priority need by the council and the private rental market is a desperate space for everyone.
We are a charity supporting asylum seekers and refugees across North Somerset. We are helping to secure accommodation through the limited options available. We are also lobbying for a more fair and humane system and looking for long term sustainable solutions.
But this takes time.
Through the generosity of our supporters and volunteers, we have been able to ensure no-one spends a 2nd night on the street once they are known to us.
There are still those being told to leave home office provided accommodation with nowhere else to go.
Can you pay for a safe place for a short time so we can work on getting an action plan in place? £30 could pay for a room in a guest house for a night.
