The Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor - English Province

RCN 234434, London

The Little Sisters of the Poor specialise in providing a loving home, safe accommodation, respite care and compassionate end-of-life care for vulnerable older people of modest means.

As the UK faces an ageing population, the need for high-quality elder care has never been greater. By 2040, nearly one in four people in the UK will be aged 65 or over and the number of people over 85 is expected to more than double.

This demographic shift presents significant challenges: How can older people with complex needs live well? How can we support our ageing population when existing health and social care systems are already stretched thin?

The Little Sisters of the Poor are dedicated to meeting these challenges head-on. We provide affordable care to low-income individuals aged 65 and above, regardless of race, nationality or religion. With ten care homes across England, Scotland and Ireland, we strive to combat ageism and disadvantage, ensuring that the most vulnerable are included in society and can lead fuller, more independent lives.

Our homes foster a sense of community, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation. We support older people to stay active, build intergenerational partnerships with schools and community groups, and form lasting friendships.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges. Lockdown measures have restricted residential visitations and forced us to cancel essential charity events and collections, significantly impacting the donations we rely on to sustain our operations.

Despite these challenges, our dedicated staff and volunteers are going above and beyond to ensure our high-quality care continues. But the cost of providing this care—including up-to-date comfort, safety and equipment—far exceeds our current income.

We need your help. Your support is crucial in enabling us to continue providing safe, affordable and quality care to older people in need. By contributing to our appeal today, you can make a profound difference in the lives of our residents, staff, volunteers and the wider community.

Every gift, no matter the size, will be gratefully received and used to sustain our vital services. Together, we can ensure that vulnerable older people receive the care and dignity they deserve.

Please donate today. Thank you for your generosity and support.
