African Vision Malawi (AVM)

RCN 1113786, Surbiton

Our vision is to see a "healthy, educated and self-sufficient community in Malawi". The people of Malawi want to help themselves. Since 2005 African Vision Malawi has been helping children & vulnerable people in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. AVM can empower them to become self-sufficient and independent.

Since 2005 African Vision Malawi has been helping children and vulnerable people in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world to become self-sufficient. We have around 30 staff in Malawi, supported by 100 volunteers from the community. We have no paid staff in the UK but a core team of volunteers and trustees, some full-time, who support our operations.

We work in an area 30km away from the capital city, Lilongwe. The area we cover is 400km2 with a local population of 45,000. We support 26 Primary Schools, have just under 3,000 orphans and 300 disabled registered with 2 clinics and 2 maternity units. We work through 14 centres where we have a Local Based Committee (LBC) of 7 volunteers in each centre who help us see and resolve the issues.
