Teignbridge CVS is crowdfunding on behalf of the voluntary sector to help groups offer an internet connection, training and support, and a laptop or tablet to people who are not already online or school students who need access to a devise to do homework . The Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency has led to local charities and support groups saying how many people are disadvantaged by not being online. In the post pandemic world many services will be delivered online and fewer with face to face meeting. Evedence has shown children without good online access have fallen behind in educational terms.
The ‘Connecting Teignbridge’ project aims to support voluntary and community groups to help get people online so they can access services and support and connect with friends and family.
Young people who receive a devise will be encouraged to a become a ‘digital champions’ through a voluntary group, to support older people with the new technology.
Schools and voluntary groups will lead on identifying people to receive devices, distributing them and providing training and support.
