Help Build New Invention Brewery in Digbeth

Help us transform our new Digbeth home into a bigger brewery and vibrant taproom with street food, events and live music.

We’ve got the keys. Now it’s time to build it.

New Invention Brewery brewed its first beer in April 2019.

What started as a small independent brewery in Bloxwich has grown steadily over the last seven years into something far bigger than we imagined at the beginning.

Last week we brewed batch 496, which means we’re now only a few brews away from our 500th batch.

We’ve survived Covid, built our Bloxwich taproom, grown our customer base and continued increasing production year after year.

And life didn’t exactly stand still along the way either. During those years I became a dad twice while continuing to run and grow the brewery.

It hasn’t always been easy, but we’ve kept moving forward.

Our growth in numbers

Our production has grown steadily year after year, from 157 hL in 2021 to 547.8 hL in 2025.

This year we’re already ahead of the same point last year and, based on our current run rate, we’re on course to brew around 600 hL in 2026, or roughly 60,000 litres of beer.

We’re incredibly proud of that growth, but it has also created a problem.

We’ve outgrown our current brewery.

Our existing site simply doesn’t give us the space we need for the next stage of New Invention.

So we’ve taken the biggest step in our history.

We’ve secured a new home at 148 Adderley Street in Digbeth, Birmingham.

The lease is signed.

The keys are ours.

And the work has started.

From an empty unit to the new home of New Invention

The Digbeth site gives us the opportunity to create something we’ve wanted for years.

A proper working brewery and taproom together under one roof.

We want the new site to feel unmistakably New Invention.

A large industrial brewery taproom with plenty of seating, beer brewed on site, outdoor drinking space, street food, events and a constantly changing range of New Invention beers alongside carefully selected guests.

There’s a huge amount of work between the building we have today and what we know it can become.

But this is the vision.

The building already has loads of character. Our job now is to turn it into somewhere people genuinely want to spend time.

We want a space that works just as well for a quiet afternoon pint as it does for a busy Friday night, an event or a packed weekend.

A brewery you can actually see

This won’t simply be another bar carrying the New Invention name.

The brewery itself will be part of the venue.

We want you to be able to sit with a pint while looking across at the tanks where the next New Invention beers are fermenting.

The move gives us the space to increase production, improve the way we work and continue growing without losing the connection between where our beer is made and where people drink it.

And Bloxwich isn’t going anywhere

This is one of the most important parts of the plan.

Our existing Bloxwich taproom will stay open and continue operating as normal.

Bloxwich is where New Invention grew up.

The customers and regulars who have supported us there are a huge part of the reason we’re in a position to take this step.

Digbeth isn’t replacing Bloxwich.

We’re growing from one home into two.

That’s also why the bar-credit rewards in this Crowdfunder will be redeemable at either Bloxwich or Digbeth.

If Bloxwich will always be your local, you can still back the Digbeth project and enjoy the rewards at the taproom you already know.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We want to make one thing very clear.

We are already committed to this project.

We’ve signed the lease, taken the building, invested our own money and started the work.

This Crowdfunder isn’t about deciding whether New Invention Digbeth happens.

It’s about helping us make it as good as it can be from day one.

Turning an empty industrial unit into a functioning brewery and taproom requires a huge amount of work.

The money raised will help us towards things including:

• brewery infrastructure and drainage
• cold storage and cellar equipment
• bar and beer dispense equipment
• seating and furniture
• lighting and finishing works
• signage and branding
• improvements to the outdoor drinking area
• the countless finishing touches that turn an empty building into a proper brewery taproom

The more we raise, the more of that work we can complete before opening rather than adding things gradually later.

What do supporters get?

We didn’t want this campaign to simply be about asking people to donate money.

We want the people who back New Invention Digbeth to actually become part of it.

Rewards start from just £10 and include exclusive merchandise, extra-value bar credit, brewery experiences and some genuinely one-off opportunities.

You’ll be able to get bar credit worth more than you pledge, redeemable at either New Invention Bloxwich or Digbeth.

There will also be a limited Supporters’ Preview Night, held before the Digbeth taproom opens to the general public.

Selected supporters will get the chance to be among the first people through the doors, have the first beers from the new bar and see the finished venue before everyone else.

And for those who want to become an even bigger part of the story, there’ll be opportunities to:

The New Invention Supporters’ Wall

There is one thing that every person who backs this campaign will share.

Every supporter will have the option to have their name permanently displayed on our New Invention Supporters’ Wall at Digbeth.

Whether you pledge £10 or £2,000, we want there to be a lasting reminder inside the brewery of the people who helped us take this step.

Years from now, we want supporters to be able to walk into the taproom, point to their name and say:

“I helped build this.”

The next chapter

From our first brew in April 2019 to almost 500 batches today, New Invention has grown further than we could have imagined.

We’ve gone from 157 hL in 2021 to 547.8 hL in 2025, and we’re now on course for around 600 hL in 2026.

We’ve made it through Covid.

We’ve grown the brewery.

We’ve built a taproom and a community around it.

And now we finally have the opportunity to build the New Invention Brewery we’ve been working towards.

There is still a lot to do.

Drainage needs installing.

Cold storage needs building.

The bar needs finishing.

Beer lines need installing.

The brewery needs moving.

And there’ll undoubtedly be plenty of jobs we haven’t even discovered yet.

But for the first time, we have the space to do it properly.

We’ve got the building.

We’ve got the keys.

We’ve got the plans.
