The background
We have been working with people on the Autism spectrum for over ten years. Many young people with autism have the EXACT skills that employers are looking for. They are often experts in their specific area of interest, and they are passionate about subjects that interest them. They are methodical, brilliant researchers, pay considerable attention to detail and are highly productive. SO WHATS THE PROBLEM?
- Only 32% of autistic adults are in some kind of paid employment
- 77% of unemployed autistic adults want employment
It may be that employers don't quite fully understand people on the autism spectrum
It may be that employers don't feel they could fully support people with autism in the workplace.
It may be that people with autism do not interview very well, due to open-ended, indirect questions, poor memory amongst other aspects of an interview they may struggle with.
WE WANT TO CHANGE THIS.
Our aim
We would like to give these young people the opportunity to have paid employment, with a view to eventually managing their own business in a horse trailer, based around their own skills and interests. We know that running a business from a premises, in these current times may be too tricky for some of our young people, thats why we have come up with the idea of portable businesses, which means the young people can work when suits their needs.
What the money will be used for
The money donated will be used to purchase our first horsebox trailer and turning it into their dream. We believe these horseboxes can be turned into anything from hair salons, coffee trailers, bars, fish and chip shops, pizza ovens and more!
Ongoing support
We will support these young people with all aspects of running a business, which will give them invaluable skills such as financial management, marketing, communication and organisation.
We would love for you to consider donating. Thank you for reading our project aim.
