Support our efforts to renew the RAF Bomb Disposal bench at the RBL National Remembrance Gardens (NMA) and you could win …..
Here's your chance to win the original canvas painting of "Salute to Sullom Voe" commissioned to mark the disbandment of 5131 (Bomb Disposal) Sqn.
Having previously created a mural to mark the Squadron's 75th Anniversary, Nottinghamshire artist Mark Whitaker was commissioned to create a painting detailing the history of the Royal Air Force's last Bomb Disposal squadron before it was disbanded in 2020.
The framed canvas measures approximately 89 x 63 cm (canvas alone is approx 76 x 51 cm).
The origins of Royal Air Force Bomb Disposal began in 1939 following the first German bombs falling on British soil at Sullom Voe.
Over the course of the Second World War, RAF Bomb Disposal teams served in the Middle East, North Africa, Italy, China, The Malay States, Gibraltar, France, Norway, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Austria and Germany and were actively employed with the Allied Disarmament Organisation post-war.
Over the following years RAF Bomb Disposal personnel were involved in Operations and Deployments throughout the world including: Op Sandcastle, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, Iraq, the Balkans, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, Op Rectify, Op Olympic, NATO Baltic Air Policing Missions and Military Aid to the Civil Authorities (MACA) Operations.

The winner will be drawn at random following the closing date and will receive the canvas via ParcelForce within 2 weeks of the draw date.
Please note that delivery is to UK addresses only.
Alongside the memorials to both RAF Bomb Disposal and RAF Armourers within the National Memorial Arboretum (soon to be the RBL National Remembrance Gardens) sits a bench donated by the members of 5131 (Bomb Disposal) Sqn. After many years, this now needs replacing so we are seeking funds to enable us to do this.
Artist Mark Whitaker (www.markwhitakerart.co.uk) has once again been extremely generous and has donated the original canvas painting made for the Sqn to help with our efforts.
After postage costs, all money raised will be put towards the new bench which has to be purchased through the NMA. In the event of a surplus of funds being raised, this will be donated to the Royal Air Forces Association Armourers Branch.
