Who do we support?
Wycombe Refugee Partnership (WRP) was established in 2015 by a multicultural group from the local community in response to the unprecedented number of people fleeing their homes because of war, famine or persecution. We assist people accommodated in the Wycombe area who are in the UK asylum system as well as those who have been awarded refugee status.
How do we support refugees and asylum seekers?
Depending on the need, we provide social support, help with understanding UK systems and integrating into life and community in High Wycombe. We often help with accessing education, English classes and healthcare and we are able to source donated household goods through our Facebook page. For those with professional backgrounds, we offer additional help to support re-qualification in their field of work. For those still in the asylum system with no right to work, we provide additional support through our Hardship Fund in the form of supermarket vouchers. We believe every refugee can make a profound contribution to society, and that our local community will be immeasurably enriched through the integration of people from all cultures and perspectives.
Accessing Activities
We have an Activities fund to enable asylum-seeking children and young people to participate in local sports and leisure activities and so become better integrated into the community. Our volunteers help the families find activities that their children would like to participate in, and we help with costs and transportation. In the past year, this has included a skateboarding club in conjunction with Wycombe Wanderers, trips to the Vache Opera and music workshops, an outing to Odds Farm Park for Mums and primary aged children and provision of vouchers for teenagers to go bowling.
Mellor House
Since 2018 WRP have used a 3 bedroom house (Mellor House) provided at a peppercorn rent by the Chilterns Area Quaker Meeting, as a halfway/temporary home for those who have received their refugee status but don't have a stable housing option. As soon as they start to receives a regular income, WRP supports their search for private rented accommodation by gifting the deposit and first month’s rent, and providing donated furniture and goods.
While at Mellor House, our volunteer's offer a number of services, including; befriending, English language support, help finding employment, support with paperwork and a Facebook page gathering donations for furniture/furnishings for newly homed refugees.
