This dal is a kitchari recipe from my grandmother's kitchen, it's a dish that is often made when you are unwell or in need of comfort:

You will receive:

- Dried lentils & rice

- Whole spices

- Freshly roasted & ground spice mix

- Recipe and information card

MSF provide life saving care all over the world, saving lives in conflict zones, epidemics and natural disasters. This money will go towards providing medical care in places that need it the most.

I have felt overwhelmed by the news lately - watching in horror at events unfolding in Israel and Gaza, the violence in Congo resulting in over 7million people fleeing their homes and the ongoing violence in Sudan's Darfur region. Watching as three huge earthquakes hit Afghanistan. As over a million Afghanis in Pakistan are displaced overnight. Most importantly watching as some of these news stories go untold. I wanted this years DAL KIT to support people across the world, those who are fighting to survive every day.

Almost every country has a version of Kitchari (Koshari in Egypt, Musalwa’a in Palestine, Kitchiri in Afghanistan, Kedgeree in the UK...) and in a world that feels very polarised I wanted something that reminds us that there is so much more that unites us than divides us.
