Indian Farmers Protest
Over 40% of India's workforce are in agriculture. India provides 70% of the world's spices. This is everyone's fight.
The Indian government have passed three bills that will mean small scale farmers no longer receive guaranteed prices for their crops. This makes them vulnerable to large corporations and ever reducing prices. These farmers were already struggling, with many committing suicide (over ten thousand in 2019). Indian farmers and their supporters are peacefully protesting across India but they are being met with violence, arrest and silenced by internet blackouts.
Not only does India export the most spices in the world, it is also the world's second-largest producer of rice, wheat, fruits and vegetables. They feed us all.
Where your money is going: Khalsa Aid
Khalsa Aid (currently nominated for the Nobel peace prize) are providing food, medicine and essential supplies to protestors. Khalsa Aid have created a ring fenced fund for donations to Indian Farmers that will go directly to support farming projects.
What else can you do?
This is as much about raising awareness as it is about raising money, perhaps consider signing this petition and sharing it with a few friends.
