Aim

The future of Crail Kirk hangs in the balance. By 2027 Crail Kirk may be disposed of by Church of Scotland. Crail needs to act now.

The future of Crail Kirk hangs in the balance. All we know is that the Church of Scotland will likely dispose of Crail Kirk by the end of 2027.  What happens once it’s sold is anybody’s guess.  It could be turned into a headquarters for a business, or be used as a shop outlet.  So, let’s not leave it to chance. Crail Kirk has been part of our community for the best part of 800 years.

The Community Right to Buy scheme allows communities throughout Scotland to apply to register an interest in a property and then gives them the option to buy when it comes up for sale. Crail Community Partnership is working with other interested parties and groups to register an interest in the Kirk.  But we need a credible plan in place before next summer if we are to have any hope of success and that will come at a cost.

We need to work with independent professionals in the area of heritage architecture to assess future uses and build our business plan.  They would provide us with a sustainable plan for the Kirk which would respect the fabric of the building as well as proposing a use for it which would provide real benefit to the Community.  It would also take into account the repairs which will undoubtedly be needed and potential sources of funding.

Please note the Business Plan that was created for the acquisition of Crail Community Hall. CCH Business Plan

Without such a plan, there is virtually no prospect of community ownership. With a plan, we will be ready to respond and we will have the opportunity to influence the future of this important part of historic Crail.

The professional fees involved would be £12,000 and the Community Right to Buy process would cost £3,000.  We are therefore asking for donations to help us raise the £15,000 we need to have a robust plan in place and register our interest.

Please donate whatever you feel able to.  All donations add value to this fund.
