Change of Scene is a small care farm and haven for young people struggling in education. With 1-2-1 support from a key worker, our young people learn to care for our 16 species of animals alongside gardening, cookery, carpentry and craft. We build self-esteem, resilience and confidence to help them cope with all of life's challenges.

0Our Young People:
Most of the children and young people we work with have been excluded from school, are in short term provision, or not on a school roll and by the time they are referred to us, the majority also suffer from poor mental health. All need support and help to reach their potential and enable them to return to sustainable education. The young people work outdoors 1-2-1 with a key worker, learning to care for a wide range of animals on the farm, alongside gardening, carpentry, cookery, and craft activities. Attendees learn responsibility and we nurture their self-belief and confidence, which, in turn, increases their life chances.
"This special farm with its patient and compassionate staff has been an anchor for my child."
By the time they are referred to Change of Scene, most young people have become accustomed to failure and their self-esteem is at rock bottom. We aim to give them the chance to succeed. Attendees come once or twice a week and they stay for as long as is necessary, from one term to over ten years. Often, Change of Scene represents the only stability in the lives of these vulnerable young people.
To date, 226 young people have attended Change of Scene on a regular basis. Our aim is to help them re-engage with sustainable education and our success rate stands at 74%. We also run a free summer programme for 120 local young people per year.
We measure progress over time in six key areas: Resilience, Empathy, Working Independently, Working Together, Self-Esteem and Responsibility with attendees improving in every area. We also offer AQA Unit Awards in practical subject learned on site.
We have a large waiting list of children who want to come to Change of Scene. We want to grow our services to meet that need and develop extra services for other children and young people we know need help.
"R has done remarkably well with you and has been truly inspired. Thank you for all the work you have done with him, I fear we may have lost him all together had he not attended Change of Scene."
