0Originally founded in the 1950’s as one of the first 3 Beach Lifesaving Clubs in Britain, the club closed in the late 1970’s. In 2012 the club reformed and has not looked back since. We are currently in a period of rapid growth.
We now deliver several training sessions a week, providing first aid, sea safety and competition training. Our skilled and qualified volunteer coaches provide professionally recognised training in Surf Lifesaving; enabling all members to become competent lifesavers; with members going on to serve their local community as first responders and voluntary or professional lifeguards working on Brighton & Hove’s beaches; nationally for the RNLI or worldwide.
COMMUNITY
Our ethos is to provide people of all ages the opportunity to enjoy the sea in a fun and safe environment, with great training, equipment and a variety of membership types. Many of our volunteers; parents and younger people are involved in other projects related to the beach environment; including working with young people experiencing physical and mental health issues; local swimming clubs and other community sporting activities.
BSLSC also works closely with other community organisations, the local seafront office; the RNLI and other relevant organisations. The club is the primary source of water safety management for major charity swims and water sports events held in the city.
OUR VALUES
Brighton Surf Life Saving Club is a friendly, caring club that wants members of all abilities to have a good time and improve their surf life saving skills. The club is run by volunteers who help and coach in their own time.
