25 original monoprints made for Moor Trees’ 25th anniversary — helping plant Dartmoor’s future forests, one print and one tree at a time
🌳 25 for 25 — Plant the Future with Moor Trees
This project marks a special collaboration between artist Stewart Taylor and the conservation charity Moor Trees, celebrating 25 years of creating and restoring woodland on Dartmoor, and looking ahead to the next 25.
“For the past five years, my Tree Portraits series has explored our fragile connection with the natural world — from its origins in London’s street trees, to the fire-scorched Joshua Trees of the Mojave, and the lichen and fern-laden oaks of Dartmoor’s temperate rainforests. Now, as part of Moor Trees’ Plant the Future campaign, I’ve created 25 new monoprints inspired by these local rainforest habitats — including Bovey Valley Woods, Lustleigh Cleave.”
Each of these one-off prints is available for just £25, with every penny donated directly to Moor Trees to help restore and expand native woodland across Dartmoor. That’s just a tenth of their usual retail price!
🌿 Why It Matters
For 25 years, Moor Trees has been quietly transforming Dartmoor’s landscape — growing native broadleaf trees from locally collected seed, nurturing them in community nurseries, and planting them by hand with the help of over 275 volunteers each year. So far, they’ve planted more than 195,000 trees, creating 175 new woodlands and restoring vital habitats for insects, birds, and mammals.
Their vision for the next 25 years is bold:
To see a third of Dartmoor covered in native woodland by 2050 — forming a living mosaic of biodiverse, carbon-storing forests that connect people with nature.
Your support helps turn that vision into reality.
Every print sold contributes directly to growing and planting the next generation of Dartmoor’s temperate rainforest.
🖼 About the Prints
Each piece in this '25 for 25' collection is a signed, original monoprint on Daler Rowney Cartridge, image size 30x35cm.
They were created using various gelliplate processes, and fast, intuitive techniques that mirror the pace and rhythm of growth, decay, and renewal within woodland ecosystems.
I’ve also drawn inspiration from further afield — from Padley Gorge and Buttermere to the Birches of Skye — to capture the wider, western temperate rainforest range and the importance of connecting these fragmented habitats.
Thanks go to my friend and photographer Jon Ranger for providing additional reference images from across the UK, helping to bring these forests to life.
📦 How It Works
Each print is available for just £25, plus the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards, which covers next day/signed-for Special Delivery, including all packaging. Unfortunately, these do need to be purchased separately.
You must include the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD unless you live locally to me in Dartmouth and want to collect it!
This all ensures your artwork arrives in perfect condition and that Moor Trees receives the full value of your donation. Crowdfunder will pay both amounts to me, and I will transfer all print proceeds to the official Moor Trees Crowdfunder, 'Plant the Future' page, when this campaign closes on 01.01.26.
Risks and Challenges
This project has very minimal risks. I’ve already had a lot of interest in the prints, and the extra leverage via the associated Moor Trees Crowdfunder should see all the prints sell out. Indeed, I will have further prints to add as bonus rewards should we sell out at any point!
In terms of the validity of my Rewards in this fundraiser, you will find social proof through my links below, where similar fundraisers have succeeded through sales of my artwork. My Tree Portraits series has always focused on raising awareness and funds for environmental conservation, including charities like Friends of the Dart, Rewilding Britain, Till the Coast is Clear, and the Woodland Trust. My ‘Help Build The Print Shed’ Crowdfunder earlier this year included the sale of 33 prints, generating over £4,000 of the final £11,070 raised.
All donors have successfully received their Rewards from these fundraisers, although the only issues that occurred resulted from donors NOT providing their recipient address when making pledges! Correct postal addresses must be provided, as Crowdfunder cannot share personal information due to data protection laws.
🌱 Together, We Can Plant the Future
This collaboration celebrates both art and action — creativity in service of conservation.
Each print helps to fund the planting of new trees, and breathe more life back into Dartmoor.
Whether you’re an art lover, a tree planter, or someone who simply believes in leaving the world richer in biodiversity than we found it, I’d love for you to be part of this project.
Join me — and Moor Trees — in planting the future, one print at a time.
& Thank you for helping make a wilder Dartmoor possible.

🌳 The Rewards
Each of these 25 original monoprints was created specially for the Moor Trees 25th Anniversary Crowdfunder, inspired by the rare temperate rainforests of Dartmoor and the wider UK.
Every print captures the living energy, resilience, and complexity of these vital ecosystems — places that Moor Trees is working to restore and expand.
All 25 print rewards are £25 each, PLUS the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards to cover next day/signed-for Special Delivery, including all packaging.
You must do this unless you live locally to me in Dartmouth and want to collect it!
Each monoprint is a unique work on paper (30x35 or 35x30 cm), signed and titled.
FYI these will not appear in order now, as the SOLD prints move down to the bottom of the page after being purchased!
1. The Bovey *SOLD!*

This monoprint is of a “dead” tree stump right next to the River Bovey that runs through Bovey Valley Woods. However, it’s still teeming with life — ferns, mosses, grasses, etc.
I worked extra quickly on this print (maybe 10–15 minutes only) to try and impart the energy to reflect this vitality.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
2. Branch over Buttermere *SOLD!*

An alternative view of a tree at Buttermere, species unknown. I particularly like the background landscape juxtaposed with the tree — I used a combination of roller work, brush-end stippling, and sprinkled bicarbonate here. The latter produces a delightful starburst effect (if used correctly!).
Credit to Jon Ranger for the original photograph that I worked from here.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
3. Polypody – Stoke Fleming *SOLD!*

There’s a lovely uphill walk from the back of Blackpool Sands up to Stoke Fleming, which is lined with spectacular trees, many of them beech. This one has a host of ferns around its base. I’m intending to make a larger print of this tree soon!
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
4. Skye Birch II *SOLD!*

I’d not knowingly made any birch tree prints until this project! Their bark and structure cry out to be rendered in black and white monoprint, so these were great fun to create.
Credit to Jon Ranger for the original photograph that I worked from here.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
5. Fingle Bridge Sentinels *SOLD!*

A trio of riverside trees here, again thanks to Jon for sending me the original photo to work from. Fingle Bridge is not far from me, on the River Teign near Exeter.
There were some really nice contrasts in light and dark to take advantage of here, plus the gorgeous composition of the three trees themselves.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
6. Split Beech – Okehampton *SOLD!*

One of my favourites from this series. I took this photo a few years ago en route to the highest parts of North Dartmoor (the High Willhays), coming up from Okehampton. This beech had clearly suffered in a recent storm and had one of its enormous branches ripped away from the trunk.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
7. Fingle Ferns *SOLD!*

Another photograph courtesy of Jon from Fingle Bridge. I used quite a bit of ink to print the branches here — the gelliplates that I use for all my prints have a lovely habit of spreading ink randomly when applied like this!
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
8. Skye Birch I *SOLD!*

Another trio of branches from Skye, courtesy of Jon again. The dramatic backgrounds for these are just as important as the trees themselves and provide real context for the birches — these hyper-oceanic climates are the true environments for temperate rainforests and are essential for species unique to our islands.
Moor Trees’ work on Dartmoor is critical to their protection and expansion.
I fully intend to visit the northern reaches in the next few years and hope to get involved with projects that aim to connect our fragments of temperate rainforests, such as Cairngorms Connect.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
9. Pollards – Stoke Fleming *SOLD!*

Another beech from the aforementioned walk to Stoke Fleming from Blackpool Sands. Lots of amazing contrasts to attempt capturing here — very stark winter light, and it was a typically damp South Devon winter day!
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
10. Deluge III – Lustleigh Cleave *SOLD!*

Another favourite. One of the earlier prints in the series, and one of my first experiments with bicarbonate — although I was trying to capture a downpour here, not sunshine!
This was my first visit to Lustleigh Cleave (on my birthday earlier this year), and the temperate rainforest lived up to its billing in a big way.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
11. Fingle’s Ivy *SOLD!*
An ivy-clad tree here on the banks of the Teign. Often misunderstood and abused, ivy is one of nature’s biggest allies, and contrary to popular belief, it bears little harm to its host trees.
Credit again to Jon Ranger for the original photograph.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
12. Buttermere Holly *SOLD!*
This veteran holly tree has an enormous split along its trunk, possibly the result of both codominant branches and high winds. Buttermere, one of the jewels of the Lake District, is renowned for its stunning views and walks.
Credit to Jon Ranger for the original photograph.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
13. Limbs AOTS – Lustleigh *SOLD!*

Temperate rainforest oaks are well known for the wide and lowering reach of their horizontal branches. This is such a tree — a vista from my first, very soggy visit to Lustleigh Cleave. I’ve used both sprayed water and bicarbonate to try and capture this in reduction monoprint.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
14. Deluge VI – Lustleigh Cleave *SOLD!*

Quite a few of my Lustleigh prints are on green blended backgrounds, reflecting the emerging verdant conditions of early spring.
Lustleigh Cleave features in an entire chapter of Guy Shrubsole’s The Lost Rainforests of Britain, which tells the story of how previously heavily grazed common land became ‘disused’ and reclaimed by the trees in just a hundred years.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
15. The Bearded Wood *SOLD!*

This series around our temperate rainforests wouldn’t be complete without at least one print of Wistman’s Wood!
Jon again supplied the original photograph for this piece. Beard lichens are one of the most stunning features of temperate rainforests — and Wistman’s Wood in particular.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
16. Deluge V – Lustleigh Cleave *SOLD!*

One of my favoured tricks for capturing these rainforest-sodden trees is spraying the gelliplate either before or after rolling out the ink, and this is definitely true for this beech. It was so wet that day it was only possible to spend about 30 minutes in the Cleave {after an hour looking for it!] before scurrying off to the local pub to dry off!
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
17. Jungermannia – Redux

This is a reprise of a previously made Tree Portrait from 2024. The original 'Jungermannia' is a large-scale mixed-media print, which has just made its London debut at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.
The tree concerned I discovered on my first trip to Bovey Valley Woods last year.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
18. Riparian I – Redux
Another remake of a Bovey Valley Woods tree. The original monoprint was exhibited earlier this year at Delamore Arts and subsequently sold.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
19. The Leaner

Many of our coastal trees have distinct leans to them, mainly as a growth reaction to counter the high winds we experience — and this is one.
Situated on that walk to Stoke Fleming from Blackpool Sands, this beech is particularly striking.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
20. BVW 7 *SOLD!*
I collated a number of the trees I first discovered at Bovey Valley Woods numerically, much like my earlier Tree Portraits. These were gathering dust on my laptop, awaiting the chance to be rendered in print.
Many of these temperate rainforest trees have a distinctly mystical feel, reminding us of the connection we once had with them, and this seems very evident at Bovey Valley Woods.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
21. Deluge II – Lustleigh Cleave *SOLD!*

Another favourite of mine, and one that really captures that genuine rainforest feeling. This tree had a distinct lean, a bulging base [it may well have been pollarded], and was covered in both moss and ivy.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
22. Lustleigh Bulge

Made from a photograph I took at Lustleigh in May, in much drier and warmer conditions! This is a magnificent oak, with a mossy trunk that has distorted its shape around the surrounding boulders.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
23. The Deluge – Lustleigh

Not located in the Cleave itself, this tree is on the brow of the hill leading out of the village. Lustleigh Cleave proved rather difficult to find that day, as the road that winds round from Bovey Valley Woods was flooded and impassable.
Only after a second recce, up from this tree, was the trail to the Cleave found!
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
24. BVW 5 *SOLD!*
The final Bovey Valley Woods tree of this series is an old oak by the river, which has lost a number of its main limbs, probably due to disease, and is now host to a number of other plant species.
Many of these are sustained by the decay and nutrients from the tree itself, and in turn provide valuable habitats to other beings.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
25. Deluge IV – Lustleigh Cleave

Our final tree of the series available here — another glorious leaner on the slopes of Lustleigh Cleave from that sodden day back in April.
I hope that we can sell all 25 prints, so I can add a further batch from the 50 created before the deadline. This way, we can raise as much as possible towards the target for Moor Trees.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
26. ‘Deluge VI – Lustleigh Cleave’

Another favourite memory of a beautiful Oak from my sodden visit to Lusteligh Cleave back in April. Printed on a blended/melange base, I used a combination of ink that dried faster and wetter inks – this resulted in a nice chance of marks to represent the glory of the tree and the near monsoon conditions!
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
27. 'Skye Beithe' *SOLD!*

'Beithe' in the title is borrowed from the Gaelic name for the Birch - laden with symbolism around new beginnings, fertility and purification. In the ebb and flow of recent ice ages, the Birch has always been the first coloniser in newly thawed territories
Credit to Jon Ranger for the original photograph that I worked from here.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
28. 'Lustleigh Burl', monoprint, 30x35cm image size

A tree from the same sodden day in the Cleave! this tree has a particularly striking burl from where it lost a large branch.
I used a combination of quite wet ink and bicarbonate of soda sprinkled over it, to try and capture the glistening trunk in the rain.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
29. 'Ridges - Stoke Fleming', monoprint, 30x35cm image size

A print of what I believe to be an Oak on the winding path up to Stoke Fleming from the back of Blackpool Sands.
The bark and billowing branches are particularly pronounced on this tree, and I used quite a lot of ink to reflect this in the print. These larger areas of ink will then spread out over the print itself, and produce some lovely textured, ridged elements.
Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
30.'Lustleigh Spring', monoprint, 30x35cm image size

This print of a tree in Lustleigh Cleave was made from my second, sunnier visit there a few weeks later.
The canopy was beginning to close, and I wanted to create a slightly more abstract piece to capture the dappled light cascading down from the canopy.
31.'Llyn Padarn Birch', monoprint, 30x35cm image size

My friend & photographer Jon has been kind enough to send me some more images of Birches that he's recently taken in Wales. This includes some stunners from Llyn Padarn, of which this one I've just printed off the gelliplate Others he has kindly sent include a somewhat famous Birch, The Lonely Tree of Llyn Padarn Lake [which I obviously Must do a print of soon!], which was a recent nominee for the Woodland Trust's 'Tree of the Year'.
32.'Entombed - Lustleigh', monoprint, 30x35cm image size

'Entombed - Lustleigh' gives a sense of the life and vibrant growth within temperate rainforests - an old, formerly pollarded tree, bedecked in Ivy, with moss-clad boulders in the foreground. Lustleigh was formerly common lands that fell into disuse, allowing the Woodland to return over a period of less than 150 years. Its story is one of hope in reminding us how quickly nature can return and thrive.
33.'Lobaria II', monoprint, 30x35cm image size

This is a reprise of the large, mixed-media print, which has been widely exhibited in recent years and was sold at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair last month. This print is of a young Birch right next to the river at Bovey Valley Woods.
34.'Skye Birch III' monoprint, 30x35cm image size

The last of the Skye Birches in this series - all of the others have sold! Many thanks again to Jon Ranger for the original image. It's setting against the amazing landscape makes these already striking trees even more striking. I'm looking forward to making some larger, mixed-media Birches next year.
35.'Riparian II - Redux', monoprint, 30x35cm image size

This is a monochrome remake of an original monoprint from last year, which I still have! The subject is a dead/dying tree by the River Bovey, partly notable for a nest box placed on its other side. This was almost certainly put up for the use of Pied Flycatchers, which are a rare migrant visitor to these temperate rainforests.
36. 'Dappled Skye Birch', monoprint, 30x35cm image size *SOLD OUT*

One of the first Skye Birches in the series, where I was trying to accentuate the light coming through the canopy onto the distinctive bark of the tree. This print has now sold.
37.'Sodden Burls', monoprint, 30x35cm *SOLD OUT*

Another tree glittering in the spring downpour at Lustleigh Cleave! I'm already looking forward to finding new subjects in the north end of the Cleave next year - I've only explored a small section thus far. This print has also sold!
38. 'Birkwood Copse - Aira Force', monoprint, 30x35cm

A little tricky to ascertain from this print, but this is a thick copse of moss-covered Birches, one of which is in an advanced stage of decay. Not only do they live fast & die young, Birches also decay extremely quickly - another reason for their label as top pioneer trees, giving back their nutrients behind for other species.
39. 'Ogwen Valley Birch', monoprint, 30x35cm

This glorious tree near Dyffryn Ogwen, Betws-y-Coed, a place I have not visited in some 26 years! This felt like the most accomplished of my later Birch prints, with a nice balance of spatula + brush work to capture the rich contrast of the bark.
40. 'By the River [Llyn Padarn]', monoprint, 30x35cm

An unidentified tree in this case, where the shape of its branches contrasted with the river in the background tempted me to render it in gelliplate monoprint. I'm indebted to Jon Ranger for his recent Welsh & Lake District images, which have helped me 'spread' my temperate rainforest prints on a more national scale.
41. 'Aira Force Birches', monoprint, 30x35cm

A second monoprint of the same area of dense Birch growth in the Lake District. The signature white branch stands out somewhat here, as all of the other branches of this coppiced tree are smothered in mosses! Credit to Jon Ranger for the original photograph I worked from.
REMEMBER - Please add the £8 UK SPECIAL DELIVERY REWARD at the top of the Rewards section unless collecting in person.
Each of these monoprints is a small story — a reflection of place, time, and connection. Together, they form a visual archive of the trees that shape these landscapes and provide an ancient echo as to why this restoration matters. Every print purchased directly supports Moor Trees’ mission to restore Dartmoor’s lost temperate rainforests. By owning one of these pieces, you’re not only helping to fund vital reforestation work but also becoming part of a growing community dedicated to protecting these extraordinary ecosystems for the future.
