The Print Shed: A New Studio for Dartmouth's Printmaking and Arts Community.
This bespoke studio will enable me to continue creating art inspired by our local landscape and its stories and support the community and environmental charities close to my heart.
Why This Project Matters
The Print Shed will be more than just a workspace; it will be the foundation for new creations, collaborations, and contributions to causes that protect and celebrate our natural world. My artwork—particularly my Tree Portraits series—has always focused on raising awareness and funds for environmental conservation, including charities like Friends of the Dart, Rewilding Britain, Till the Coast is Clear, and the Woodland Trust.
With your support, I can:
- Build a sustainable, solar-powered studio on the existing garden shed footprint at my home in Dartmouth.
- Continue producing The Tree Portraits series and other artworks that have raised thousands for vital environmental causes.
- Expand access to printmaking for others through workshops and mentorships.
Why Now?
Since moving house, I no longer have a functional workspace. The conservatory in my previous home offered space and light but wasn’t perfect. However, my current property’s shed is far from suitable for professional use! By replacing it with The Print Shed—a durable, weatherproof, and eco-conscious studio—I’ll regain the creative space I need and ensure that future projects can flourish.
How You Can Help
Crowdfunding enables me to invite you into this exciting journey. Your contributions will go directly towards the construction of The Print Shed, including:
- A custom-built shed from Malvern Garden Buildings
- Solar power installation and specialist lighting
- Workbenches, shelving, and storage for art materials and my plan chest
To thank you for your support, I’m offering exclusive rewards, including artwork from my print archive, personal commissions, and gelliprint workshops at The Print Shed once it’s complete.

The Local Connection
Dartmouth and its surrounding landscapes have been a constant source of inspiration for my work for the past 5-6 years. From the majestic Beech and Oak trees of Gallants Bower to the beauty of the South West Coast Path, this studio will keep me grounded in the environment I love while creating art that celebrates and protects it. By supporting this project, you’re helping me deepen these connections and give back to the community.
Your Impact
By contributing to this campaign, you’re doing more than helping build a studio. You’re investing in art that makes a difference—art that tells the story of our environment, raises awareness, and supports meaningful causes.
Every pledge, no matter the size, brings us closer to making The Print Shed a reality.
Risks and Challenges
This project has minimal risks. I’ve already received pledges covering approximately 50% of my funding target and Malvern Garden Buildings have a clear pledge for the build. This guarantees a 10-week turnaround from receipt of the deposit to final build installation. Should I not hit the target within the initial timeframe, I am certain I will reach this through an extension period.
In terms of the validity of my Rewards in this Kickstarter, you will find the social proof through my links above in the 'Why This Project Matters' section, which have involved similar purchase/reward fundraisers through my artwork.
All donors have successfully received their Rewards from these fundraisers, although the only glitches that occurred resulted from donors NOT providing their recipient address when making pledges. Correct postal addresses must be provided, as Crowdfunder cannot share personal information due to data protection laws.
Join Me!
Let’s make The Print Shed a reality together. Whether you’re a lover of art, a supporter of environmental causes, or simply someone who values creative spaces in our community, your contribution will have a lasting impact. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Unframed Monoprint & Ink, 30cm x 22cm on Bristol Clairefontaine cartridge. This is my fifth tribute to one of Dartmouth’s most famous landmarks, Castle Cove, & one of my favourite swimming spots. This Reward has now SOLD!
‘Dusk V – Ash Dieback’, monoprint sketch, 22cm x 30cm, £30 unframed SOLD
One of small series of mono sketches that I completed in late 2023 to document the spread of Ash Dieback on the land. I'd only made two of these available for sale until now, with the other two priced at £100 [one of these already sold!]. This Reward has now SOLD!
‘Weeke Hill V’, monoprint sketch, 22cm x 30cm, £30 unframed SOLD
This is the view from the rewilding plot at Lower Weeke Hill, Dartmouth, where the landowners are also rewilding their acreage. The aim is to expand the woodland at Gallants Bower westwards. This print has never been available for sale before! This Reward has now SOLD!
‘Cima Dome Fire I’, Monoprint, 22x30cm, £40 unframed
This was the very first, stark piece from my Joshua Tree series which I started 2 years ago, highlighting the perilous situation of the species in the western states of the USA.This initially focused particularly on the havoc wrought by the wildfire in the Cima Dome region of the Mojave National Preserve, which destroyed over a million Joshua Trees in August 2020. This is in my shop at £100, but it's available here for £40!
Wilmington Yew IV [Stump #260], monoprint & pencil, 20x25cm, £40 unframed
Thought to be 1,600 years old & the oldest in England, The Wilmington Yew sits in the churchyard cemetery of Wilmington, not far from Eastbourne. The Woodland Trust placed the ancient tree on its England Tree of the Year shortlist in 2020 [it was beaten to the prize by a Hawthorn in Dumfries & Galloway, but I’m not sure the Wilmington Yew is really that bothered...]. Offering on here at £40, this was £100!
The original ‘Little Dartmouth Pine I’ is a mixed media print of one of the gorgeous Monterrey Pines heading West from Little Dartmouth Farm, just up from the South West Coast Path. Unfortunately, this is no longer available for sale - and due to the demand for the original, there will be an open edition of this on Hahnemühle or Somerset archival papers via my friends at People of Print.
'Stump # 87', Monoprint, 30x35cm, £45 unframed.
One of the early tree portraits of a street tree in my old Manor Park neighborhood. Was £90, now £45!!
‘Lobaria’ was inspired by my tour around Bovey Valley Woods in March 2024, courtesy of the Woodland Trust This is my most ambitious mixed-media print yet, and while gelliplate monoprints still predominate, there is a large element of drawing and experimentation with areas of sculpted and sanded filler. I’ve masked meticulously around the ‘Lobaria’ and white areas of bark and then printed multiple layers of metallic colours and gloss medium, which is rather elastic. Once the masking is lifted off, these areas of acrylic lift at the edges and mimic the curls of the lichens. As this is one of my latest pieces I can't sell it on this Kickstarter but due to request, there will be an open edition of this available on Hahnemühle or Somerset archival papers via my friends at People of Print.
The original piece was a collaboration between myself and Andy Doughty, who is a photographer of our most special, native & ancient trees. The subject is the magnificent Old Man of Calke, an ancient Oak tree situated in the Calke Abbey estate in South Derbyshire, at c.1000 thousand years old is one of the oldest Oak trees in the UK. This piece culminated in a charity fundraiser which raised over £3,000 towards the Woodland Trust’s ‘Living Legends’ campaign through selling an earlier edition of giclee prints. There is an article about this in the Trust’s Broadleaf Magazine in Spring 2024, and the print also appears in the ‘Trees Outside of Woodland‘ photo essay, recently published by Lestari, Forest Research & DEFRA.
‘Little Punks V’, monoprint, 22x30cm, £50 unframed
This is another piece from a set of small, monoprint sketches I created in 2023 derived from photos created by fellow artist Eva Boda. This was part of a collaboration & discussion around urban & rural spaces, and how they can be managed for the benefit of both people & the regeneration of ecosystems. This is the first time ‘Little Punks V’ has been on sale, and would normally retail at £100.
'Weeke Hill II', Monoprint, 32x24cm, £50 unframed
'Weeke Hill II' is the much-loved view from where I used to live of the south side of Lower Weeke Hill, adjacent to Gallants Bower. The old Ivy-clad Pine in the right of the print regularly sees the local Buzzards alighting there. This currently retails at £100 in my shop.
'Alcala’ won the Great Art Prize at The National Original Print Exhibition London 2018, & was also exhibited at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair the same year. This was based on two photos taken in Alcala la Real of a beautiful spring, scrub flower, and a rustic, ominous-looking chimney. Whilst Andalucia is stunning, the monoculture of olive groves, increasingly extreme climate & battered buildings (& economy) often give the feeling of a dying landscape that is in its last throes. These are original prints from a second edition of 20.
Another early Tree Portrait from 2020. this time of a dead tree from Wanstead Park. Was £120, now £60!! This Reward has now SOLD!
'Stump # 208 (Ghost)' is a dead tree from Gallants Bower, opposite my old studio on Weeke Hill, Dartmouth, and part of my group of study for The Tree Portraits series at the start of 2021. This was £120, now £60!! This Reward has now SOLD!
Stump #234, Monoprint & Ink, 35cm x 30cm, £65 SOLD
Stump #234 is a Monterey Pine from nearby Brownstone (over the river from Dartmouth) burnt to a crisp; Monterey Pines have massive cones which have to be opened by fire for the seeds to be released & subsequently germinate. This Reward has now SOLD!
'JTNP III’, Monoprint, 30x35cm, £70 unframed
I found with my Joshua Tree series that it seemed fairly obvious to me that working predominantly in negatives would be a good idea to represent a seriously threatened species. Credit here to my dear friend Pete Nevin/Pedro for the original photographs I used here of Joshua Tree National Park. This was £150 unframed, but I'm offering it here at £70 until the end of this Crowdfunder.
A monoprints from 2022 of my favourite cove in Dartmouth. This retails at £140 in my Shop, this Reward has now sold!
This is a framed monoprint, 32cm x 24cm, on Bristol Clairefontaine cartridge, derived from a Combestone Tor/Dartmoor visit at the end of 2021. I went fast and painterly here…not my standard output, but it’s good to experiment with a few more rolling techniques & spatula marks. This Reward has now SOLD.
Dusk I – Ash Dieback III [Stump #262], monoprint, 30cm x 35cm, £75 unframed
This was the first of my latest series of Ash Dieback monoprints recording the ongoing decimation of over 90% of our native Ash. ‘Dusk I’ was selected for the British Contemporary Printmakers show at Delamore Arts 2024. Retails at £150 in my Shop!
'Little Punks III', monoprint, 21x29cm unframed. One of my lil' collaboration with fellow artist, Eva Boda in 2023, and derived from a series of photos of trees by the Danube.
This is a tribute to one of Dartmouth’s most famous landmarks, Castle Cove, & one of my favourite swimming spots; this retailed at £200 in my Shop, but this Reward has now sold!!
These are available at an Early Bird price. Designed to be perfect introductory courses for anyone who would like to use my new facilities but has yet to try gelliplate printing, I’ll teach you the entire process from preparing plates; reduction, painting and stencil methods, ink-mixing and printing. With the Reward costs including all materials, you will also walk away with all of your work from the day! the image featured is from my technical article on gelliplate printing in the 2024 summer issue of Printmaking Today. You will also receive one A3 giclee print of 'Little Dartmouth Pine I'
Personal Tree Portrait Commissions at half price!!! *£100 for a 30x35/35x30cm image size. - have me capture your favourite tree as you want in 2025. Many people have asked me to create monoprints of trees close to their hearts in recent years, and they have all been delighted with the results. The piece will be completed & delivered to you next year, based on any photo that you want to send that best represents your subject. The sample shown here is 'Wilmington Yew I [Stump #257]', created for Stephen Rennie in 2022 *this is merely an example, and not what you will receive!
‘Stump #238’, Monoprint & Acrylic, 30 x 35cm, unframed £100. This is of a Monterey Pine situated in Brownstone over the river from where I live in Dartmouth.
'Cima Dome Fire VII', Monoprint, 30x35cm, £100 SOLD
My Joshua Tree series initally focused on the havoc wrought by the wildfire in the Cima Dome region of the Mojave National Preserve, which destroyed over a million Joshua Trees in August 2020. Efforts are underway to replant/replace these keystone plants, which are relied upon by more other plants & animals than any other within their ecosystems. This Reward has now SOLD!
Stump #209, framed monoprint, This is one of the Trees from Gallants Bower, opposite my Studio in Dartmouth, which was part of a group of study for The Tree Portraits series. This was selected in the curated hang at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2021 and British Contemporary Printmakers show at Delamore Arts 2024. This retails at £250 in my Shop, but it's available here for £125!
‘Stump #241 [Gallants Chestnut] is my second print in homage to a massive Horse Chestnut [on the Dartmouth Castle side of Gallants Bower]. Was £250, now £125!!
LAST AVAILABLE PRINT of this one-off edition, as the penultimate one has already sold here!!! Fall’d Flabingo was selected for the 2018 RA Summer Show & the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2018. This resulted partly from an extremely unflattering photo of me flailing around on my back in the sea (whereby my legs were compared to that of a Flamingo), whereby I created a human/flamingo hybrid. Visually inspired partly by Wojnarowicz’s infamous photographic print of a Buffalo Jump (in response to the AIDs crisis of the time), I then superimposed these mutants over a photo stencil from a similar image/backdrop that I took in the Andes a few years previously. my final Witness to the Fall of Man/Manbird is an overly humanized Monkey.
The idea for ‘Merapi’ came about after a night hike up Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on my birthday in 2013. 'Merapi' was exhibited at the National Original Print Exhibition in 2014, and retails at £520 unframed in my online Shop.
'Past’, Screenprint, 152cm x 96cm, £150 unframed for 24 Hours on 26/02!!
‘Present’, Screenprint, 152cm x 96cm, £150 unframed for 24 Hours on 26/02!!
‘Present’ is part of the Past/Present/Future series from 2020, & is the 2nd of the Series; like ‘Past’ the original photo was taken from the London Eye. The Monty Python-esque upward pointing Hand, the Swift, and Amoeba all signify a simplistic, youthful joy of being in the Big City at a time when London was abound with optimism. This print retails at £650 on my Shop, but this is available for this campaign at £300.
The last of the Past/Present/Future series of Prints from 2020, ‘Future’ is from a particularly bleak photo taken of Spitbank Forts in the Solent. The Forts appear as ancient relics of a long lost Society, where only the most primitive of things remain [zygotes, amoeba]. A dying sun sets, with a toxic red cloud hanging above a ladder [to hell or heaven?], both Guston-esque props that I used in this period. This print retails at £650 on my Shop, but this is available for this campaign at £300.
Taupe Lofty (Rugeley) II has its origins in a photo taken on a gorgeous Spring morning in 2016 when passing the then soon-to-be decommissioned [& ultimately demolished] power station at Rugeley in the West Midlands. This was my most ambitious screenprint at the time, in terms of layering, with over 70 unique ‘pulls’ for each Print. This retails at £750 unframed in my Shop, but it's available here for £350!
‘Brownstone Pine I’, Monoprint, Ink & Acrylic, 71x100cm. £400 unframed
This piece captures the dramatic life cycle of the Monterey Pine—one of our coastal giants, thriving in the South West since its introduction from the USA over 200 years ago. Reaching maturity at breakneck speed, these trees return to the soil in under a century, feeding the next generation. This particular pine met its natural end in fire—a process essential for its cones to open, releasing seeds to begin the cycle anew. This has been reduced from the normal retail price of £800 unframed!
‘Cima Dome Fire IX’, Monoprint, 71cm x 100cm. £400 unframed
A haunting reflection on the devastating 2020 wildfire that destroyed over a million Joshua Trees in the Mojave. These ancient plants, once spread by now-extinct giant sloths, are struggling to recover without human intervention. Rising temperatures and vanishing rainfall threaten their very survival. Here I painted on masking fluid in negative for the outline of the tree, before printing this area, then removed the masking while the ink was still wet. I then used a dry brush to enhance the scorched flowers and leaves. This monoprint captures both the destruction and the fragile hope of regeneration. This has been reduced from the normal retail price of £1,000 unframed to £400!
This is a large mixed-media print of mine from 2022 of one of the giant Monterrey Pines near Froward Point/Brownstone, by the mouth of the Dart in Devon. Here, I focused on their very anthropomorphic, twisted forms and was obsessed with their tendency to almost self-immolate in maturity, allowing the seeds/next generation to be realised and thrive. With this Tree, I particularly love its balding crown, which is valiantly clinging on to life. This Reward has now SOLD!
'Cima Dome Fire XVI' is from my Joshua Tree series, which has yet to be exhibited. It was also the inspiration and subject for my first viral Reel on Instagram. It is a monoprint in acrylic and ink, 70cm x 100cm on Fabriano. Reduced from £1,200 in my shop. This Reward has now SOLD!
This came about after taking some Photographs at Bow Creek looking towards Limehouse in London. The skyline, sunburst and atmospheric conditions gave a strong sense of drama, & the decaying old warehouses near the Lock persuaded me to include a variety of motifs & imagery (both drawn & borrowed) to help describe the uneasy relationship between the brownfield ‘natural’ world of the City & the man-made effluent we create. ‘Up Shit Creek’ was exhibited at the 2019 RA Summer Show, ‘The Masters: Screen & Stone’ at the Bankside Gallery, & the 2018 Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. This print retails at £900 unframed in my Shop, but is available here at £450!!
This is the very same framed print from the 2019 RA Summer Show - this has both the RA label + 'selected' chalk mark on the back of the frame for provenance! ‘Up Sh*t Creek’ was exhibited at the 2019 RA Summer Show, ‘The Masters: Screen & Stone’ at the Bankside Gallery, & the 2018 Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. FYI this Reward has now sold!
The Past/Present/Future BUNDLE OFFER for £600 You can get ALL THREE prints in the series for £600 - this is a frankly mad offer, as each retails at £650 in my online shop!! descriptions for each print viewable for the unique originals offered here.
Personal Tree Portrait Commissions at half price!!! *£500 for a 70x100cm/100x70cm image size - have me capture your favourite tree as you want in 2025. Many people have asked me to create monoprints of trees close to their hearts in recent years, and they have all been delighted with the results. The piece will be completed & delivered to you next year, based on any photo that you want to send that best represents your subject. The sample shown here is ''Walker Pass IV', which was created for Luke Roberts in 2022 *this is only an example, and not what you will receive!
