Teaching our children to respect and care for our environment will help them develop good habits and hopefully as they grow they will be kinder to our planet than previous generations.
Project Aim
We would like to give our children more opportunities to take their learning outside. We hope to install a covered seating area outside in the school grounds so that we can utilise the benefits of Outdoor Learning. Our "Outdoor Classroom" will be placed next to our recently added pond and wildlife area, so we can get closer to nature.
Why is this so very important?
There is an increasing amount of evidence which suggests that Outdoor Learning is fantastic for children's health, well being and learning. It can also help them to have a greater connection with nature. We would like to take this opportunity to enhance our school grounds, whilst improving our outdoor learning opportunities for our pupils. We believe that it is essential to instil a love and deeper understanding of the environment in our children.
Community
Woodford Primary School is very much a part of its local community. The playground areas and outside space are used to host fairs and events that are open to the wider community. We organise Christmas, Easter and Summer Fairs, which are open to all. The playgrounds are also used by after school clubs, Willows Nursery and the local Scouts Groups. Our video has been filmed by our Year 6 pupils, who also also edited it with help from Plymouth Community Photographic Studios CIC.

Who are we?
We are the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association of Woodford Primary School, Plympton, Plymouth. We are a registered charity (1085540.) We raise funds through various fun events at the school to provide additional equipment and resources for our school.
We have had tremendous support from our parents through our fundraising activities and this has really proved their commitment and backing for this wonderful project.
What will the money be spent on?
The PTFA are busy fundraising to improve the outdoor space in the school grounds, not only for their pupils, but also for the Nursery and active Scouts Group that we share our outdoor space with. We are looking to build a wooden gazebo with enough seating for a class of 30 children. This will help us utilise the area in all weathers - for lessons, play times and lunchtimes!
We really appreciate anything you can do to support us.
On behalf of the PTFA, Woodfood Primary School teachers, pupils and the local community - thank you!
