With Coryton Primary School, WCC is creating a natural-feel pump trail and skills loop to help young riders build skills year-round.
Whitchurch Cycle Club is an award-winning, inclusive social cycling club dedicated to helping young people discover the joy, confidence, and freedom that cycling can bring.
We welcome riders of all abilities and confidence levels, supporting children and young people aged 3 to 18 as they develop skills across a range of cycling disciplines. Whether it’s a child riding independently for the first time or building confidence off-road, our volunteers create a supportive, friendly environment where everyone belongs.
At its heart, Whitchurch Cycle Club is about confidence, community, and fun; helping young riders grow not just as cyclists, but as people.
WCC 'massive' at the national cycle cross races.
In partnership with Coryton Primary School, Whitchurch Cycle Club is developing an exciting natural-feel pump trail and skills loop designed to improve access to cycling, develop skills, and bring the wider community together.
While the school grounds are well loved, their use for cycling is currently limited. During the winter months the playing fields and pitches cannot be used without risking damage, and wet ground makes riding difficult and unsafe. At the same time, there are few permanent features that allow older or more confident riders to progress their skills, meaning opportunities for development are restricted.
The project will transform an underused area of the school grounds into a safe, inclusive, and sustainable cycling space, providing year-round access for pupils, club members, and local families.
The trail will include:
Crucially, the trail will use a natural-style, all-weather surface, allowing access to areas that are currently muddy and unusable for much of the year. This protects existing sports pitches while enabling consistent use in all seasons.
The smoother, confidence-friendly surface means the trail will be rideable on standard bikes, not just specialist mountain bikes, making it especially inclusive for younger riders, beginners, and families.
This is a unique local facility that will:
We are seeking match funding through Sport Wales’ A Place for Sport programme. To unlock this pledge, we must raise at least 25% of our crowdfunding target and secure support from a minimum of 50 unique supporters. We are confident we can meet these conditions and build strong early momentum.

Thanks to the incredible support of the PTA and Whitchurch Cycle Club, the project is already over 75% funded; with £40,000 of the £48,000 total cost secured.
This Crowdfunder will help us:
A small portion of the funding will also support secure on-site storage for essential club equipment. Secure storage will allow the club to run more regular sessions, reduce set-up time, and make better use of volunteer effort.

Embedding bike skills at a young age helps create lifelong cyclists, encouraging healthier lifestyles and active travel habits that last well beyond childhood.
This project will:
By creating a welcoming, shared space, the trail will become a community asset, not just a school facility.
