Forced to start from scratch on new allotments, Wymondham plot-holders need an environmentally friendly water system.
As part of its drive to protecting the environment and increasing sustainable ways of working, Wymondham plot-holders are looking at alternatives to relying on mains water. The collecting and maximising of rainwater on individual plots helps reduce the reliance on mains water, but does not meet the full requirements of the keen veg growers.
Therefore Wymondham plot-holders are working towards the installation of a sustainable water supply, storage and distribution system at their new allotment site.
The borehole with water storage tanks that would hold up to 40000 litres of water would be completely run off of solar panels. The bore hole would be fitted with a pump which pumps water into the tank, which then feeds out, via water distribution pipework to all allotment plots on the new site, giving all tenants access to water. This makes the site completely independent in collecting its own water. Not only that but the water is more organic and better for the produce as it is collected naturally and untreated as opposed to mains water.
