Our Adventure Wellbeing Programmes aim to offer free access to adventurous outdoor activities for people with a wide range of needs.
Our Story
At Venturing Out CIC, we believe that everyone should have the chance to experience the joy, challenge, and an enhanced feeling of wellbeing that comes from being outdoors and taking part in adventurous outdoor activities.
We are a Community Interest Company based in East Lothian, offering a wide range of outdoor activities from coasteering and kayaking to bushcraft and hillwalking. We can run activities for individuals, families groups, workplaces and community groups. But behind every adventure we sell, there’s a much deeper purpose to who we are and what we do.
Our mission is to make outdoor adventures accessible to everyone, especially those who might not otherwise get the chance. Many people face real barriers — disability, financial hardship, or mental health challenges — that make joining in on outdoor experiences difficult or even impossible. This is where we like to make a real difference.
Through our Adventure Wellbeing Programmes, we provide free to access, fully supported, inclusive outdoor sessions that help people build confidence, improve wellbeing, and reconnect with nature — all in a safe and supportive environment. These sessions have a real and lasting impact: we’ve seen participants grow in confidence, develop new friendships, and feel the positive mental health & wellbeing
Our work includes programmes such as the ASN Adventurous Activities Provision, which delivers regular, free to access, sessions for children living in East Lothian who have an additional support need that prevents access to mainstream activities. What makes this provision special is that it’s family based — parents, carers, and siblings take part too. The sessions are designed to boost self-confidence, self-esteem, and resilience, while also supporting family bonding and creating a setting where young people can play and make new friends. It’s a warm, social environment where families connect, share experiences, and offer each other advice and support.
Another key programme is the East Lothian Carers Adventure Wellbeing Group. This programme offers unpaid adult carers living in East Lothian a year-round programme of free to access outdoor activities that aim to support positive mental health and wellbeing. It provides time out in nature, space for social connection, and a powerful way to reduce the isolation so often felt by those in caring roles.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we reinvest surplus profits and we apply for grant funding. But as demand grows and more people reach out for support, we need additional help to keep our programmes running and expand our reach.
That’s why we’re asking for your support.
Your donation will help us fund more Adventure Wellbeing Activities — creating life-changing opportunities for people who need them most. Whether it’s helping a young person struggling with anxiety to paddle their first kayak, or giving a young person with additional support needs the chance to share an outdoor adventure with their family.
