Aim

Help launch our first inclusive books, merch, and access tools that challenge how disability and exclusion are understood.

The System Isn’t Broken. It Was Built Like This.

We’re not here to patch it up. We’re here to tear it down and build better.

Who We Are

The Unseen Barriers Foundation is a disabled-led, trauma-informed organisation challenging the idea that access stops at ramps and regulations. Founded by Shaun Gray, the creator of The Unseen Barriers Framework, we expose the hidden costs of existing in a world that refuses to recognise distress as a valid barrier. Shame, panic, sensory overload, dissociation, fatigue, these do not appear on access audits, but they block lives all the same.

What We’re Doing

This fundraiser supports work others ignore. We are developing creative, inclusive, and accessible resources that begin with lived distress, not surface-level convenience. From books and animations to public workshops and safeguarding-led merch, we are building tools that speak directly to disabled people, not just about them.

At the heart of it all is Cùran, our soft green dragon and quiet co-conspirator. Cùran was born from a question, what would it look like to feel safe in a world that isn’t? Cùran doesn’t ask “What’s wrong?” They say, “You’re not broken. You’re distressed. And I’m staying with you.”

Cùran features across everything we make. In school materials. In books. In animations. In story packs. In the hands of children and adults who need softness without suspicion. We are also developing a bespoke Scottish voice bank for Cùran so they can speak in a voice that feels real, familiar, and safe.

How Your Support Helps

Your donations will fund:

Fair pay for disabled creators and voice talent

Trauma-informed books and resources for schools and support services

Translation, captioning, and accessible formatting

Development and distribution of safeguarding-led Cùran plushies and merch

Maintenance of our accessible digital platform and story wall

Free public workshops and community engagement events

Strong governance and safeguarding structures with lived experience at the core

We are not here to inspire anyone. We are here to change things.

This Is What Distress-Based Inclusion Looks Like

We are not a corporation. We are not a tick box. We are not here to dilute or apologise. We are here because disabled people are excluded every day for reasons that remain unseen, unnamed, and unchallenged.

That stops here.
