Aim: We will support disabled young people to access sport and activity by providing boccia ball sets to low income families

Who are we?

We are a registered charity and the National Governing Body (NGB) for boccia in England.  We are responsible for all aspects of the sport in England from beginner to expert, providing for all levels of participation and are dedicated to improving the physical and emotional well-being of children and adults with disabilities through boccia.

Why are we crowdfunding?

This is where you should explain the reason you need to raise money, are you launching a new women's team? Perhaps you need to improve facilities or buy new kit? Tell us here.

We are seeking support to expand our "Try Boccia at Home" programme, improving the physical and mental wellbeing of disabled children through increased access to physical activity. Boccia is key in addressing the gap between disabled and non-disabled children in exercise participation. Disabled individuals face barriers to physical activity, with 80% engaging in little or no exercise, raising health risks and mental health challenges like anxiety and depression. The pandemic worsened these challenges, with setbacks in progress, communication, and mental health. Disabled children are nearly twice as likely to be inactive, exacerbating long-term health risks.

Our pilot project, in partnership with the Family Fund and supported by Sport England, successfully provided boccia kits to families, resulting in improved outcomes and family engagement. We aim to scale this programme across England, purchasing 2,025 boccia kits this year.

How we’ll spend the money raised

This funding will purchase 40 kits, providing a pathway to improved health, resilience, and social inclusion for disabled children, while preventing health and social challenges in a safe, inclusive environment.

Community impact

Our initiative promotes physical activity, confidence, and resilience by offering an inclusive, seated sport ideal for children with severe disabilities. This reduces isolation, builds social connections, and improves overall wellbeing. The programme supports both mental and physical health, encouraging movement and offering a sense of belonging.
