Aim: I'm raising money to help people living with dementia & to raise awareness and funding to help research against the disease.
Having seen the effects of dementia first hand and how awful the condition is to live with, I will be raising money this year to help the fight against this horrible disease. Pam, my Fiancés mum was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago, the signs were hard to see at first, slightly worse memory than usual, going the wrong way to a friend's house, forgetting items from the weekly shop... but it doesn't stop there, it keeps chipping away. I've seen how this cruel condition changes lives, it's more than just memories that are lost, dementia steals a person's independence, changes their personality and brings in a sense of fragility. It's not just the people with dementia that I am doing this for, I have experienced first hand the demands and strength it takes to care for someone with dementia.
Some facts from the Alzheimer’s Society:
This is our 3rd ride in the last 3 years and this is the hardest challenge yet… the first two editions saw us travel;
This year we will be riding from Rochester in Kent, starting at 4am, to Weston Super Mare in Somerset, in just one day, a total of 330km, the longest bike ride I have ever done!
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to access to better care, earlier diagnosis and eventually, a cure.
Thank you so much for all your support for this event and the fight against dementia, I truly appreciate every one of you.
This one's for Pam.
