Demand for emergency food support is at its highest level yet. Your support can help ensure no one in our community goes without food.
Food banks should not have to exist. No one should be forced to rely on emergency food support just to survive. We believe in a future where everyone has enough income, security, and dignity to meet their basic needs without charity.
But right now, that future is not the reality for thousands of people in our community.
Across the UK, 7.5 million people are living in food-insecure households, and foodbank use remains at record levels. Here in Haringey, the picture is even more stark. Nearly 4 in 10 children are growing up in low-income households after housing costs, one of the highest rates of child poverty in London. Every week, we see people who never expected to need us, and hundreds who are living with the quiet burden of choosing between food, warmth, and dignity.
At the same time, the support we rely on to meet this need is falling. Donations of both food and funds have dropped significantly, while demand for our services continues to rise. We are now spending, on average, between £4000–£5000 every month just to buy food - something we have never had to do at this scale before. Without funds, we face the real possibility of reducing the days we are open and limiting the number of households we can support at a time when need is rising, not falling.
This is why your support is urgently needed.
We know that the cost of living crisis is affecting everyone. Many households are feeling the pressure of rising food prices, energy bills, and housing costs, and for some, there is very little left at the end of the month.
If you are in a position to spare a donation this winter, your support can make a real and immediate difference to someone who is facing an even harder choice between food, warmth, and basic essentials.
Your donation will help us continue to provide emergency food parcels to individuals and families who need them most in our local community. Historically, we’ve received donations both big and small from near and far so please see that anything you’re able to donate is valued, appreciated and will go a long way.

Mark, 39, worked as a scaffolder for almost 15 years. He was physically strong, hardworking, and proud of the life he had built for himself and his two children. But everything changed when he had a serious fall on site. He fractured his spine and sustained nerve damage that left him unable to return to any kind of manual work. Overnight, the career he relied on was gone.
With no income and months of rehabilitation ahead, Mark found himself slipping into financial crisis. His Statutory Sick Pay barely covered his rent, and by the time his employment ended, he was already behind on bills. The long wait for disability benefits and assessments left him struggling, and the pressure mounted each day.
As the debts grew, Mark cut back on everything he could. He often skipped meals so his children had enough to eat when they stayed with him. Heating his flat became a luxury he could no longer afford. He described the experience as “losing everything, one bill at a time.”
By the time Mark was referred to the foodbank, he was completely overwhelmed. The injury had taken his job, his confidence, and his sense of stability. Now he was facing the fear of not being able to provide even the basics for his children.
At the foodbank, we stepped in with food and energy vouchers to support him while he had no income at all. This meant Mark could keep his home warm and make sure he and his children had proper meals as he waited for his benefits to be approved and adjusted to life with a life-changing injury.
Every donation helps us respond quickly when someone is referred to us in crisis.
“I’ve worked my whole life and never ever thought I would need a foodbank but when the company I worked for downsized and I suddenly lost my job, I found myself sitting at home with nothing in the cupboards. The foodbank got me through the weeks when I had no one else to turn to. They gave me support and helped me get back on my feet whilst I looked for a new job.” - Terry, 48
“When my mum’s health got worse, I had to cut my work hours to care for her, and I couldn’t keep up. Some weeks I was choosing between buying her medication and food. Coming to the foodbank was a huge relief. They helped us to find support we didn’t know we could get and it really helped me cope better whilst looking after my mum.” - Hannah, 34
Securing the funds needed to keep our shelves stocked and our services running is a constant challenge, and the pressure will only increase as demand grows. Even so, we believe deeply in the strength of our community. We have done it before and we can do it again.
We will continue to work towards a future where no one needs a foodbank at all. But until that future exists, we must make sure that no one in our community is left without food or support when they need it most.
If you are able to donate, please know that your support will help keep our doors open and ensure fewer people are left without help when they need it most. If you cannot donate, sharing this page also makes a huge difference.
Thank you for standing with Tottenham Foodbank and with our community at this critical time.
