** Awesome News - Sport England have pledged £6000 to our campaign, go to updates to read more **
*** FANTASTIC NEWS - WE DID IT - THANK YOU! But we won't stop there, with the remaining days of the campaign we would love to continue to raise as much money as we can. The extra funds raised will go on replacing a broken shutter door and having new flooring in a changing room laid (carpet was condemned, but not covered on insurance). We also require new furniture for the waiting rooms.***
We are Tamworth Olympic Gymnastics Club, fondly known as TOGC by our members. We are a Not-for-Profit Company and a registered Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) that have been inspiring gymnasts since 1979.
Mrs G (Sue Goodman) founded the club, with just a couple of mats in a school sports hall. In 2006 we moved to our current premises and have seen thousands of gymnasts pass through our doors.
Over the years our club has been a place of joy and laughter - a fun, welcoming escape for both children and adults. We are a facility that not only helps improve physical wellbeing, but mental health also.
We have grown from a handful of gymnasts to over 650, with 20 coaches and 50 classes per week. Together with our supportive parents/carers, and loving team of coaches, we have a TOGC family that stretches far across the region, and beyond.
It's not just gymnastics either, we welcome:
We really do offer our community a place to grow and learn. We are somewhere people can feel part of a family, and therefore, reducing any feeling of isolation.
Our mission at Tamworth Olympic Gymnastics Club is to provide a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment for gymnasts of all ages, allowing them to 'Dream, Believe, and Achieve' (Club Moto). We are dedicated to building strength, skill, and character in our gymnasts, while honouring the legacy of our founder, and embracing a vision for the future. At TOGC, we strive to inspire our gymnasts to reach their full potential, and to create a community that supports, uplifts, and celebrates every individual's achievements and successes on and off the mat.
At TOGC, we are proud to have a diverse group of members - the youngest just 2 years old and our most mature at 60! Whether they are looking to stay active or compete with dreams of national finals, we have provided a platform within our family.
We have over 400 recreational gymnasts, comprising of pre-schoolers, girls recreational, and boys freestyle. On top of our monthly paid classes, we run drop in, pay as you go sessions for Gym Cubs (toddler group), Home Education, and Adults.
We currently have over 80 squad gymnasts, making us one of the largest competing WAG (Women's Artistic Gymnastics) clubs in the West Midlands region. In 2022, one of our Elite gymnasts earned a coveted British Gymnastics Bronze Medal at a national final. This achievement, along with so many others, are a testament to the talent and perseverance of our gymnasts and coaches.
In 2022, we saw our adults taking on new challenges, with a group of them competing at British Championships. Jon, our oldest member, came away with the Gold on the High Bar for his age category, meaning he is currently the British Champion. And more recently they attended an adult competition in Portsmouth, where they all came away with medals!
Over the years, some of our previous gymnasts have even gone on to become members of the GB squad, with one of those gymnasts (Ellesse Oates) now returning to the club to coach the next generation of gymnasts.
Going into coaching is something we like to encourage from any of our older and ex gymnasts. Just recently we have been immensely proud of some ex squad gymnasts who have successfully qualified as both coaches and judges.
At TOGC, we are dedicated to providing affordable gymnastics classes for all our members. However, this means we don't have spare money to replace/repair old equipment, or purchase anything new and exciting for our gymnasts. Our club has faced numerous challenges over the past few years, including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the rising cost of living, and most recently, major smoke damage from a neighbouring fire which has seen us closed since 7th January 2023.
After all of these challenges, we have had to redirect funds raised for new and replacement equipment towards keeping the club operational.
All of these trials have not only taken a toll on our kit, but also the mental health of both our gymnasts and staff. The ongoing closure of our facilities has left gymnasts unable to train, leading to a significant decrease in morale within the TOGC community.
Your contributions will help us to not only reopen, but to come back stronger than ever before. With your support, we hope to introduce a brand-new piece of equipment, a FastTrack, that will allow us to continue promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for both children and adults. Additionally, your donations could help us secure extra funding from Sports England. Please consider pledging today to help us BOUNCE BACK, Bigger and Better.
At TOGC we endeavour to invest wisely for the benefit of all our members, and therefore, we believe acquiring a brand-new Fast Track will be a fantastic asset for everyone!
The FastTrack, a long trampoline-style track, offers various benefits including reduced impact on joints, improved spatial awareness, and a fun experience. Its unique features make it the ideal addition to our gym equipment. Introducing new, FUN, and EXCITING equipment like the FastTrack is essential to rejuvenate the spirits of the TOGC community.
Once we have the track, we will then focus any leftover funds on purchasing extra landing mats, and items not covered by our equipment insurance. Things like IT equipment, office chairs, waiting room furniture, and floor coverings.
"Whilst putting this campaign together and speaking to different people about the fire, it has amazed me just how many people have said phrases like 'oh yes, I know your club, my daughter/son used to go there' or 'wow, that's the club I used to go to'. As someone who has only been with the club for the last six years, it has really hit home just how much the club has impacted on peoples lives within Tamworth and the surrounding areas. " - Hayley Hooper (Fundraising Co-Ordinator)
