26th January 2024Planting Day!
Site Preparation Update

The soil was sampled in the chosen site area this Thursday- see the photo above- for an indication of tge- which is the Lennard road end of the park. The final design is being tweaked as we want a path going through the forest as requested by so many of you.
On site evidence was that it is clay, it is impacted and the early indications are we will need to dig down to the full 1 metre depth because of this impaction and soil type.
Earthwatch will be testing the soil samples taken to also determine what type of soil enhancement they will make through a blend of straw, manure and or mycelium.
The date for digging and soil enhancement is yet to be set - -we will rope off the area a few days before to protect the site / Earthwatch workstream and prevent dogs from straying into the area while they work and we plant).
Planting Day!
The celebratory planting day is Saturday February 24th 10.30 - 13:30pm session 1 - 10:30, session 2 - 12. 12 - 13:30
Please save the date and RSVP to [email protected] if you can attend to help us plant your trees along with the remaining 600 saplings and shrubs that will be going in.
We have the planting in two sessions to stagger the number of volunteers on site as its quite a small space in essence so when you RSVP indicate your preferred time slot
We will have cake and hot drinks to keep us warm - Southey may even be on site with another option to try their Tiny Forest brew!!
After the planting day
We will be hoping some of you will sign up to be Tree keepers and Junior tree keepers and carers - to help care for the Tiny Forest, including undertake some cool stuff like counting bugs and worms on specific days, measuring the growth of the trees as well as some weeding and in hot weather watering!
We hope to see you on the 24th
