About the Queen of Greens

The Queen of Greens mobile greengrocer is an innovative initiative that brings fresh, affordable produce directly to neighbourhoods in the Liverpool City Region with limited access to healthy food. This ensures that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has access to fruit and vegetables.

The service brings 1726672717_(socials)_queen_of_greens_-_landscape_images_(april_2024)_%C2%A9rob_battersby_19.jpgfresh, affordable produce to areas described as food deserts and communities affected by food insecurity. 1 in 3 adults in Liverpool are food insecure, meaning food is a source of worry or there is a lack of consistent access to enough food for a healthy diet. To ensure accessibility, produce is sold in loose quantities so customers can buy as much or as little as they need, reducing waste and unnecessary costs. Payment options include cash, card, Healthy Start and Alexandra Rose vouchers, promoting accessibility to low-income families.

The Queen of Greens is a collaborative project between Alchemic Kitchen CIC, Feeding Liverpool, Feedback Global and Alexandra Rose with ongoing community consultation to ensure that the service has the most impact within the neighbourhoods it attends. The service frequents areas of high deprivation and where food insecurity is prevalent. In 2024 the service expanded from 23 to 40 stops, including hospitals and community centres, meaning more people across the Liverpool City Region have access to fresh fruit and vegetables, reducing health disparities and improving life chances.

Unfortunately, our trusty bus has reached the end of the road. After nearly two years of service, it's time to replace it with a new vehicle that can keep up with the growing demand and continue delivering fresh produce to those who need it most. We need your help to make this happen.

Why We Need a New Bus

Our original bus has now been off the road for several months and unfortunately cannot be fixed. The attempt at repairs and the price of a replacement hire van has been costly.

A new bus will allow us to:

  • Continue service: A new bus will ensure we continue to provide affordable fresh produce to communities across the Liverpool City Region.
  • Expand Reach: A new, reliable vehicle will allow us to increase the number of stops and cover more neighbourhoods, including underserved areas with limited access to fresh produce.
  • Reduce costs: We are a not-for-profit organisation, the new bus will reduce maintenance costs, making the operation more cost-effective, ensuring the sustainability of the service.
  • Broader Impact: By expanding our service area and improving the quality of our service, we can more effectively address food insecurity, and reduce health disparities in the Liverpool City Region.
  • Community Engagement: A new bus will allow us to continue engaging with local communities, establishing connections, and providing essential information and support, such as Healthy Start Vouchers and other local services.

Keep The Queen of Greens Moving

To purchase a new bus and keep The Queen of Greens on the road, we need to raise £19,000. This includes the purchase of the bus and the refurbishment of the interior to ensure it is suitable for service.

Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal.

Your donation will ensure that we can continue our mission of delivering fresh, healthy food to those who need it most. Together, we can keep The Queen of Greens rolling, building healthier, stronger communities.

Please donate today to help us fund a new bus and continue making a difference in the Liverpool City Region.
