Aim

Creating a new heritage festival to commemorate the Swing Riots and Bossenden Wood and honour Kent’s rural workers.

I’m a retired social worker with a long‑standing interest in history. After retiring, I joined the Battle of Bossenden Wood Memorial Group, where we successfully raised funds for a memorial plaque honouring the agricultural workers killed in the 1838 confrontation. The plaque was unveiled on 21st March, and this achievement inspired us to take the next step.

Our vision is to create the first Swing Riots & Bossenden Wood Heritage Festival — a new annual event that brings local history to life through music, storytelling, and community activities. We want to honour the rural workers who struggled in Kent during the 1830s and make their stories accessible to a wider audience.

The money we raise will fund the essential production costs for this year’s festival: a professional stage, PA system, and sound engineer. Anything above that will help cover volunteer expenses and contribute towards fair payments for our performers. This support will allow us to deliver a high‑quality event and lay the foundations for a festival that can grow year after year.
