Aim

To support West Bank Palestinians on the frontlines of Israeli violence, strengthening households' resilience against forced displacement.

Palestine is Disappearing

Israeli settler violence in the West Bank has risen to unprecedented levels in the wake of October 7. Over 50 Palestinian rural communities have disappeared as a result of settler attacks, according to Israeli rights group Kerem Navot.

Settlers are harassing Palestinian rural communities with near total impunity. Their aim is clear: to steal Palestinian land. It is a systematic campaign to make Palestinian daily life impossible, thereby forcing rural households to give up their land for the relative safety of urban areas. This aim is now openly supported at the highest levels of the Israeli state, with far-right cabinet ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itaman Ben Gviir diverting considerable resources to support this agenda. Rights groups have drawn attention to the active collaboration between settlers and the Israeli army. The vast majority of Palestinian complaints against settlers are closed without investigation by the Israeli police. Meanwhile the number of Israeli settler outposts increases considerably.

Palestinians lack protection against this campaign of ethnic cleansing and must largely rely on their own endurance and local support networks. But if the situation continues on its current trajectory, Palestinian presence in the West Bank risks being reduced to a series of urban ghettos, with the surrounding land falling to Israel's illegal land grab.

Roots of the Olive

Roots of the Olive is a newly established initiative between a local Palestinian activist and UK-based fundraiser. It aims to support Palestinian rural communities in a specific part of the West Bank experiencing high levels of settler violence.

Roots of the Olive will support Palestinian communities and households at risk of forced displacement, through a flexible and informal approach capable of meeting varying needs. Support will either be cash-based or through direct procurement.

The project will:

- Support households protect themselves from settler attacks, e.g.  perimeter fencing, household alarms, surveillance cameras.

- Support households mitigate the damage from settler attacks and/or state violence,  e.g. theft of sheep, slashed water pipes, poisoned wells, damaged machinery, house demolitions, bail money for unlawful arrest.

- Support vulnerable individuals with critical items, e.g. medicine, temporary shelter.

- Help meet community-based needs, e.g. provision of water.

Please donate and help Palestinians stay on their land !
