ST MICHAEL'S HOSPICE (NORTH HAMPSHIRE)

RCN 1002856, Basingstoke

We are an independent charity that supports people living with life-limiting illness, facing the end of life or experiencing bereavement in North Hampshire. Our care is provided in our 10 bed In-Patient Unit, out in our community and in people’s homes. It may come as a surprise, but only 22% of our funding comes from the NHS. End-of-life care is an essential service, not a luxury, yet it is not funded like other care services. As a charity, we depend on the kindness of supporters like you to help us raise the additional £15,000 a day needed to keep our services running.

Your life is a story, the ending matters.

Help provide comfort, dignity, and compassion to local families when they need it most.

At St. Michael’s Hospice, our teams deliver specialist care to manage pain and distress, whether in the hospice or at home across North Hampshire. We help patients feel safe, supported, and at peace – often surrounded by loved ones.

We provide a range of services including 10-bed inpatient unit, hospice at home, bereavement & counselling support, complementary therapy, physio and occupational therapy, spiritual support and living well services. We are the only adult hospice in the region offering a range of services that fulfils a person’s complete needs including psychological and social support on top of the best medical care. Our dedicated team of doctors, nurses and therapists do everything in its power to try to help with all of these aspects: it is only when we are able to support all a patient’s needs, that we are able to help them maximise their time available to lead a fulfilled life.

The death of someone significant can be one of the most challenging and painful life experiences we face. Grief is often described as a roller coaster of emotions and it can be hard to make sense of our feelings and reactions and see a way forward after a loss.

Our Bereavement Support Services are offered to those that have to cope with grief after loss. As well as one-to-one counselling we offer various support groups including Bereavement Evenings where you can meet up with others going through a similar experience.

"Initially I was not sure how I would feel about being around so many people who were feeling sad and lonely after the death of a loved one, as I didn’t feel that I needed to be reminded of the grief. However, during the first meeting, I was reassured that this was a very positive environment, the team were very supportive and understood every stage of the grieving process." -Bereavement Journey Participant

As a hospice, we only receive 22% funding from the NHS which means we have to raise an additional £15,000 every day to continue providing our care, comfort and support to patients and families.
