To empower our community through boxing, promoting fitness, discipline, and inclusion for all ages and backgrounds.
Who are we?
We are South Downs Amateur Boxing Club, a brand new community boxing club in Burgess Hill, created to make boxing accessible for everyone. From beginners to future amateur champions, we are here to build confidence, fitness, and a cohesive community through the discipline of boxing.
The club has been setup by Shaun Stepney & Lisa Houston who are both England Boxing Level 2 Coaches and have over 20 years amateur boxing experience combined. They are passionate and devoted coaches focused on creating a structured and welcoming space for all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are raising funds to get the new club off the ground and open the doors to the community.
We need to install the initial equipment and order gloves, pads and skipping ropes to enable our participants to use proper equipment to ensure they are training with the correct kit in a purpose build facility.
This crowdfunder will help us reach the match-funding criteria from Sport England and other funders, so every donation you make can go even further.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Every pound you donate will directly support the club’s setup and delivery. Here’s how we plan to use it:
Community impact
South Downs ABC is about more than boxing. We’re building a space where people can improve their mental health, self-esteem, and physical wellbeing. Boxing teaches resilience, discipline, and respect – values we want to share across our community.
Our club will be proactively supporting the reboot scheme in partnership with Burgess Hill Police as an early intervention for young people as well as providing sessions for women only, teens, People with Parkinson's and people facing challenges like low income, bullying, or social isolation.
How you can play your part
