Aim

Help Scotland's Nature Flourish! We need your help to raise £45,000 to boost nature on overlooked scraps of land across Dumfries & Galloway.

Hello,

We're Solas for Nature, a start-up social enterprise with a big mission: to help nature flourish one scrap of land at a time.

Across Dumfries and Galloway, hundreds of small, neglected plots sit unused and undervalued. With your support, we can transform them into vibrant, life-filled habitats that support pollinators, enrich biodiversity, and create beautiful spaces for communities to enjoy.

Why it matters

Working with Dumfries and Galloway Council, we identified over 310,000 m2 of land ready for a nature boost. These “scraps” might be small on their own, but together, they can create an incredible network of green spaces that:

  • Provide safe, food-rich habitats for bees, butterflies, and other insects
  • Boost local ecosystems by supporting the entire food chain
  • Help clean our air and water
  • Capture carbon and build climate resilience

By giving a little extra love to our insect friends, we're creating perfect homes for pollinators and vital food sources for other creatures. This not only helps them thrive but also gives a big boost to all other animals up the food chain.

From log piles to ponds and wildflowers to woodlands, together with experts from Solway Ecology, we're creating stepping stones for species and boosting biodiversity connectivity and resilience.

Our interventions aim to improve biodiversity by up to 71%, giving local wildlife a fighting chance in a time of rapid decline.

We need your support to plant and develop our interventions across small scraps of land in D&G.

Where it's happening

In phase 1, we are focusing on sites in 7 towns and villages:

  • Castle Douglas
  • Dumfries
  • Kirkcudbright
  • Lockerbie
  • Moffat
  • Newton Stewart
  • Stranraer

Check out the map below to see where your support will boost nature:

Your impact

Every contribution will create vital habitats for insects and bees, helping to reverse biodiversity decline and build a resilient, thriving nature-positive Scotland we can all enjoy.

Your contribution will directly support the hands-on work of making these transformations possible: You'll help us:

  • buy the seeds, saplings and tools
  • build habitat like log and rock piles, ponds and sheltering shrubs
  • support local ecologists and land managers
  • bring green spaces to our local communities

£500 could plant 375m2 of pollinator friendly wildflowers

£220 could buy an orchard pack of 8 native trees

£175 could cover a day's labour for prepping, clearing, digging and planting up one site.

Why support Solas for Nature?

We're a new social enterprise, powered by a team of ecologists, conservationalists and land managers who share over 120 years of know-how (and a love of nature).

Our model provides tangible environmental returns:

  • boosting nature by up to 71% on average)
  • carbon sequestration through native planting
  • increasing pollinator populations, essential for food security
  • helps communities reconnect with the wonders of nature.

We're here to help make Scotland a shining example of what it means to be Nature Positive.

Join us to help nature flourish.
