Hello,
We're Solas for Nature, a start-up social enterprise helping nature flourish one scrap of land at a time.
Plants and Pollinators
Our approach targets small scraps of overlooked land. Working with Dumfries and Galloway Council, we identified over 310,000 m2 of scraps of land that could benefit from a nature boost. Each enhanced scrap will bring vibrant pockets of nature to D&G communities and boost local ecosystems, helping with cleaner air and water and mitigating against climate change impacts.
By giving a little extra love to our insect friends, we're creating perfect homes for pollinators and vital food sources for other creatures. This not only helps them thrive but also gives a big boost to all other animals up the food chain.
From log piles to ponds and wildflowers to woodlands, together with experts from Solway Ecology, we're creating stepping stones for species and boosting biodiversity connectivity and resilience.
We aim to improve biodiversity by up to 71%, which will be a huge boost for local pollinators and insects who need a reliable habitat to survive.
We need your support to plant and develop our interventions across small scraps of land in D&G.
Every contribution will create vital habitats for insects and bees, helping to reverse biodiversity decline and build a resilient, thriving nature-positive Scotland we can all enjoy.
Your contribution will help buy the seeds, saplings and tools needed to carry out our vital enhancement plans to benefit local lands. Together we will achieve:
- increased volume and diversity of plant and insect species
- improved habitat resilience
- carbon sequestration
- and improved local green spaces.
We're a new social enterprise, powered by a team of ecologists, conservationalists and land managers who share over 120 years of know-how (and a love of nature).
We're on a mission to enhance every pocket of land, helping wildlife flourish, habitats thrive, and communities reconnect with the wonders of nature. We're here to shift the dial on biodiversity loss and help make Scotland a shining example of what it means to be Nature Positive.
This map highlights the sites across Dumfries and Galloway where we will be enhancing nature during phase 1 of our project.
