The Smartphone Free Schools Rating has been designed by headteachers to help schools become genuinely smartphone free.
All schools have smartphone policies. But not all policies are created equal. What does good look like? For the first time, schools have the answer.
Supporting schools
The rating system sets the standard for smartphone-free schools, supports schools to improve and celebrates their success.
Helping children thrive
Schools with effective smartphone-free polices enjoy better behaviour, better attendance and better results. The gold standard normalises delaying smartphones for children.
Informing parents
The standards allow parents to understand and compare policies. If schools are not yet on the map, parents can encourage them to register or make their own unverified submission.
We need your support
The rating system is run as a stand along project under the Unplugged Coalition umbrella by a small group of dedicated volunteers.
We need funds to develop, administer and promote the rating system to schools across the country, supporting them to reach gold standard.
The money will be paid to and managed by the Unplugged Coalition through its charitable arm, which is in the process of being set up.
The four co-founders of Smartphone Free Schools Rating, Max Haimendorf OBE, Mike Baxter, Georgie Jarman Carr and Jennifer Powers, operate a governance system which requires group sign off of any spending decisions.
We commit to use all money raised exclusively to support the rating system. In the unlikely event the money could not be used for the express aims, it would be donated to leading organisations working to reduce children's screentime.
