I am writing to ask for your support in creating a SEND Sensory Garden and Sensory Light Room at Manor Green School— space.
I am writing to ask for your support in creating a SEND Sensory Garden and Sensory Light Room at Manor Green School — spaces that will offer safety, calm, and dignity to children who often find the world overwhelming.
For many of our pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, everyday environments can be loud, unpredictable, and distressing. When sensory overload occurs, learning becomes impossible and anxiety can quickly escalate. At present, we have limited spaces where children can safely regulate their emotions, process sensory input, and feel truly understood.
This project is about changing that experience.
The sensory garden will provide a peaceful outdoor environment where children can breathe, explore, and regulate through nature — feeling different textures, listening to calming sounds, and finding quiet when the world feels too much. For some pupils, this will be the only place where they feel calm enough to communicate or connect with others.
The sensory light room will offer a controlled, soothing space for children who struggle with anxiety, sensory processing difficulties, or emotional regulation. For pupils who may otherwise reach crisis point, this room will be a place of comfort, helping them feel safe, supported, and ready to re-engage with learning.
These spaces will be used every day by children with a wide range of needs, including autism, sensory processing difficulties, and complex learning needs. The impact will be deeply personal and long-lasting: reduced distress, fewer emotional meltdowns, improved wellbeing, and increased confidence to engage in school life.
Your support would help us fund specialist sensory equipment, accessible and inclusive design features, and adaptations that ensure these spaces are safe and welcoming for every child who needs them.
By supporting this project, you would be helping to create environments where children are not simply managed, but genuinely understood and cared for.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our request. We would be very grateful for the opportunity to share more about our pupils and the difference this project could make to their lives.
