In honour of Beryl and Norman Cook, we’re taking on endurance challenges to raise money for people living with dementia.
This year, Andy and Luke are taking on some serious endurance challenges to raise money for Say it with a Smile, a cause that’s very close to their hearts.
Their first challenge is Chase the Sun, where they’ll be cycling over 200 miles (320km+) from the Thames Estuary to Weston-super-Mare in a single day. It’s a huge physical and mental test, with a full day in the saddle and likely headwinds for most of the journey.
Alongside this, Andy will also be taking on Ironman Wales solo, a 2.4-mile sea swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full marathon to finish. An incredible challenge, with a target of sub 12 hours.
Between them, this means months of early mornings, long training days, and a huge personal commitment to getting to the start line, and the finish.
Andy chose to support Say it with a Smile after losing both of his grandparents earlier this year. During that time, he saw first-hand the impact our work has on people living with dementia and their families.
“Say it with a Smile became a huge part of both of my grandparents’ lives. Every time I spoke to them, they’d be telling me about another activity, trip, or dance they’d been to. Most of the time, they couldn’t even remember everything they’d been up to, which I like to think was because they were so busy enjoying themselves.
What really stood out to me though was the community around the charity. The support, understanding, and connection they provide to people going through similar experiences with loved ones is incredible. During a really difficult time for our family, it made a massive difference to all of us.”- Andy Sturgess
At Say it with a Smile, we support individuals not just with practical help, but with something just as important: connection, community, and moments of real joy. Our aim is to help people feel less alone during what can be an incredibly difficult time.
We are a Hertfordshire-based charity supporting people living with dementia, their families, and carers.
Our work includes:
In just four years, we’ve supported over 400 people affected by dementia. We are based at The Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire’s Charity Hub at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with a mission to bring smiles and support in equal measure.
If you’re able to support Andy and Luke on their journey, it would mean a great deal. Every donation helps us continue our work and reach more families who need it.
