SAVE OUR CEG GREENBELT – DONATE TODAY

Raising funds for legal costs to save the greenbelt in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield & Grenoside

This campaign represents the people of Chapeltown, Ecclesfield and Grenoside (S35, north Sheffield). You don’t have to live here to support us – if you care about protecting Sheffield’s greenbelt, this is your fight too.

We are raising funds to cover the substantial legal and technical advisory costs needed to challenge Sheffield City Council’s plans to build homes, schools, cemeteries and industrial units on greenbelt land in our community. This includes the possibility of pursuing a judicial review, which requires independent legal, planning, and technical expertise – all of which come at significant cost.

Why our CEG greenbelt matters

The greenbelt in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield and Grenoside is a vital buffer that:

  • Prevents urban sprawl north of Sheffield
  • Protects the separation between our villages and neighbouring areas
  • Safeguards local wildlife and countryside
  • Preserves the historic and rural character of our communities

Our fields, hedgerows and woodlands are home to deer, rabbits, badgers, foxes and barn owls. They are also the places where we walk our dogs, find peace, and take pride in living in Sheffield’s “Outdoor City.”

If development is allowed here, it will set a precedent that puts greenbelt across Sheffield – and beyond – at risk.

What’s at stake for CEG

If these plans go ahead in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield and Grenoside, we will see:

  • Urban sprawl – our villages merging into Sheffield suburbs, losing their identity.
  • Traffic gridlock – the A61 and M1 already struggle; more housing and warehouses will make it worse.
  • Heritage loss – conservation areas, historic fields and ancient paths erased.
  • Overstretched services – no new GP, dental or mental health provision; unjustified new schools.
  • Wildlife destroyed – ancient woodland, habitats and red-listed species at risk.
  • Flood danger – building on upstream fields will increase flooding in Ecclesfield and beyond.
  • Unnecessary targets – thousands of homes and jobs sites in S35, while brownfield land lies unused.
  • Undemocratic process – rushed consultation, missing evidence, residents ignored.

Once our greenbelt is gone, it’s gone forever.

Why we urgently need your support

Legal proceedings such as judicial review are costly, but they are also one of the most powerful ways to hold Sheffield City Council to account. To do this, we must raise a considerable amount of money.

The vast majority of funds raised will go towards:

  • Specialist legal advice and representation
  • Independent technical reports (on transport, flooding, ecology, health, heritage and more)
  • Expert evidence to challenge the Council’s flawed assessments

A smaller portion will also cover campaign essentials such as leaflets, printing, and community outreach – so that every resident understands what is at stake.

Every donation is important – whether £2, £10, £50 or £500 – but we also ask those who are able to consider giving more, as larger donations will make a critical difference to whether we can pursue the full legal route.

👉 If there are any remaining funds at the end of this process, they will be donated to charity – ensuring that every penny raised goes towards protecting and supporting our community.

Be part of this fight

Together we can protect Chapeltown, Ecclesfield and Grenoside from destructive overdevelopment – and stop Sheffield City Council setting a precedent that could threaten greenbelt everywhere.

👉 Donate today and help us save our greenbelt for this generation and the future.
