Aim

To enable more people from our community to enjoy the clubs activities and learn to be safe in the sea - we need more equipment to grow.

Saltdean Swim & Surf Club

The club was set up in 2021 during the pandemic but has continued to grow, delivering sea and water safety sessions to over 150 people in the local community. 

We are set to expand to have more members from different age groups and abilities to join us in 2023.

We are a local Saltdean charity run by local volunteers to enable the community from Saltdean it's surrounding areas to learn a safe respect for the sea, whilst having a bit of fun too.  

The Saltdean Swim & Surf Club is dedicated to providing residents of the local area, totaling nearly 20,000 people of all ages and abilities, with an understanding of the ever-changing conditions that accompany enjoying the sea. With the proper knowledge and equipment, we can ensure that more people are trained and have a safe and enjoyable experience on the highly popular Saltdean Beach.

Whether you attend a surf lifesaving taster session in the sea or pool, or decide to become a regular member of the club there is a route to fun for everyone. 

The activities we provide benefit not only physical but mental health and well being through being delivered in a fun, engaging and supportive environment for all members. 

What we bring to the Community!

• An accessible club open to all ages (8+) and abilities in the heart of Saltdean
• The promise that if you, friends, family or colleagues attend any session you will have fun and leave feeling more confident in the sea on your local beach. 
• Sessions run at the weekend and in the evenings in Saltdean from spring and run as late into the autumn as the weather allows.
• We have a commitment to ensure people with a disability can enjoy access to our activities with the right equipment and supervision. 
• We also have funding ringfenced to ensure cost is not a barrier for anyone living locally to Saltdean wanting to join - on average, we fund 20% of our membership each year. 

Why are we crowdfunding now and what do we need?

• We are Crowdfunding to purchase more equipment, specifically Surf rescue boards and rescue tubes, needed to keep up with the demand of the Saltdean community. 
• In the Spring of 2023, we will launch our most ambitious offering to date. We aim to provide activity for those 8 years old - 99 years old both at Saltdean beach and Saltdean Lido.
• To do this we need to raise more funds to purchase 20 new surf rescue boards, 6 more rescue tubes and an Automated external defibrillator (AED).

How we'll spend the money raised

The money raised will be spent immediately on the equipment needed to run the 2023 season in Saltdean and ensure access to more people within the community.

The right equipment and volunteers have been identified all we need is the funding to secure the equipment and training. 

Without the increase in equipment our membership numbers are limited to the amount of equipment we currently have - we can't expand without more kit.

Money raised will go directly into the Saltdean Swim & Surf Club. 

How you can play your part

We have been accepted by Sport England for match funding! 

This means that if we raise our minimum target, we'll receive an additional 30% of the total by Sport England!

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

3. Can you offer rewards? If you are a local business, you can donate products or services we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a dedicated post and mention through our social media following!

4. If you want to run your own fundraiser to support us, maybe a sponsored activity like a 5k run, use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won?t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
