Aim
We are breaking the cycle of homelessness that refugees face in the UK by providing funding and wraparound support.
Who are we and why do we need to exist?
People with refugee status in the UK are trapped in a cruel catch-22: no deposit, no home. No home, no address. No address, no income. No income, no deposit- and so it continues. When you are granted Leave to Remain (LTR), you have just 28* days to leave Home Office accommodation. Without savings, many refugees become homeless within a month of being granted status.
RootsMove breaks this vicious cycle of homelessness that people seeking sanctuary in the UK are forced into. We offer support and funding to refugees, so that they can access and sustain secure housing, and live fulfilled lives in the UK.
Why are we fundraising?
RootsMove is launching a new programme to support refugees to settle into new homes in the UK. Our overall fundraising target for 2025 is £200,000 and we plan to raise £20,000 through our public crowdfunder.
The programme will include the following:
- Grants for deposit and advance rent, home essentials and moving costs
- 1:1 casework support to find new homes in the Private Rented Sector
- Workshops on tenant rights, financial wellbeing, setting up a new home
What will we achieve?
A stable, comfortable home is foundational to thriving in all aspects of life.
By removing barriers to access financial support and provide holistic support, our clients will be able to access new homes or improve the homes they live in.
How will we allocate the money we raise?
All your donations will go towards supporting refugees into stable homes. We will allocate the funds between our grant funding pot, service delivery and our core costs. The average grant will be £3800 per household.
*People who are pregnant, disabled or over 65 have 56 days eviction notice.
