Who are ReportOUT?

What do ReportOUT do?

Over 70 countries criminalise LGBQT people and 11 have the death penalty. ReportOUT protect and defend the human rights of LGBTQ people and communities in every nation state.

We hear about stories of corrective rape, torture, criminalisation and death, just because people love who they love or that they simply want to be themselves. We think that harms to LGBTQ people and their communities needs to stop. So what do we do about it?

We research, document and monitor what is happening in the world and we then use this information to raise the voices of LGBTQ people to campaign and put pressure on governments and states, as well as educating the wider public on what is happening around the globe. Our 'Educate OUT' project aims to educate schools, colleges and universities, as well as the wider public, about what is happening in the world to LGBTQ people.

Across the globe, people are facing harm and death simply for being who they are. We need to urgently gather together their voices to form a noise!

What is this 'Forgotten Voices' project about?

Our 'Forgotten Voices' project aims to document the marginalised lives and voices of LGBTQ people from all over the world, often from nation states where their voices are silenced such as Afghanistan, Uganda and Eastern Europe. We also want to find out how LGBTQ people form resistance to often oppressive regimes and nation states.

We will then safely (and anonymously) record podcasts from brave people LGBTQ around the globe as well as asylum seekers living in the U.K. These will also be free to listen to by the public and we will use them in our education project in schools and colleges, and in our campaigns to advance for social change. We are working with Pride Media Centre in order to collect these voices together so LGBTQ people are not forgotten or marginalised and they have a space to voice resistance!

Alongside this, we will offer opportunities for local people (including local LGBTQ asylum seekers) to engage with our work and to learn new skills in podcast interviewing and creation to help their employability and to boost their CV's.

Part of fighting back against oppression is to work WITH LGBTQ people globally to raise their voices. Our Forgotten Voices project is our way of doing this.

How can you help? Get involved!

You can join us and create your own fundraiser page to help us to raise this total amount! Simply click on the blue 'Start Fundraising' button on this page and this sets up your own link to help to raise £100 to help us - you do not need any bank details and it is really easy to set up. The more people who fund raise alongside us, the faster we will raise our total amount.

To do this, you could run fun and easy to plan events such as:

- An online quiz night and sell tickets;

- An online talent show and sell tickets (can you sing, play the guitar or have another talent you can show off?)

- A Zoom pub night and sell tickets;

- A walk in your exercise time, run or bike ride to raise sponsorship on your link;

- A book club where all members pay a fee into your link;

- An online auction of anything you want rid of!

If not, you can just simply ask friends to donate to your link to raise £100 toward our total amount.

What does your donation do?

We plan to record 20 podcasts. For roughly every £200 we raise, we can interview, record and edit a podcast in the Pride Media Centre studio. Two people raising £100 each can raise the voice of a marginalised person to allow them to be heard!

Donation update!

ReportOUT submitted a funding bid to the North East Local Enterprise Partnership and were successful! North East LEP have pledged the following:

"Once you have raised 25% of your target from 10 unique backers, you will then be eligible for a match fund pledge of £1025 onto your project from the North East LEP. Then once you have reached 75% funded you will receive a second pledge of £1025 onto your project."

If we make £2,050 on our Crowdfunder then we will hit our £4,100 target! Great news!
