Earl Soham Village Hall Renovation Fund:

Sensitive renovation of the original 1934 village hall building is underway and our urgent target is for an eco-friendly sustainable infra-red heating system to replace the failing and expensive oil-fired boiler.

Installing infra-red heating in the ceiling will create an even warmth during the winter months and chilly Spring evenings, allowing a broader range of groups and activities to use the Hall all year round.

A type of heating highly recommended for community buildings with large open spaces; it warms people and objects, rather than pumping heat into the air. This eco-friendly route to sustainability will allow us to remove the inefficient and costly oil-fired heating system, giving new life to the hall, bringing in a new, warmer era.

Funds raised so far:

Thank to everyone who helped raise £10,000 in 2024 for replica external doors to keep the heat in and the weather out !

Local company, Earl Soham Joinery Ltd. crafted three sets of replica doors to modern standards, replacing the ageing and draughty original doors that tried to blow open with every puff of wind.

We are grateful to Adnam's Community Fund for a donation of £850.60 for the renovation of a window over the main entrance that had been boarded-up for many years....light now spills into the main hall. We are also grateful to Aspall's Cyder for their donation of prizes for Winter Quiz Nights and Summer raffles.

Café-in-the-Kitchen, run by a team of splendid volunteers continues to be a popular and successful fundraising initiative, running alongside a programme of events attracting a wider local audience.

Village life is so important to preserve and by default so is the village hall. My parents village lost their village hall to a housing development. This was a classic short term gain but long term pain situation. This is a great cause.
