New stretch target
If we are able to reach our stretch target, we will be able to make some bigger changes to our centre, such as new flooring throughout the whole of the premises!!
We aim to refurbish our centre, to make the space we have a bright and more welcoming place for the asylum seekers who use our services.

If we are able to reach our stretch target, we will be able to make some bigger changes to our centre, such as new flooring throughout the whole of the premises!!
Our target amount is set to the bare minimum we can make any changes with - let’s hope we go over and beyond this and can really make our centre meet our needs!
At DCRS, we believe that the process of claiming asylum should be safe, dignified and fair. We equip asylum seekers with an understanding of their rights and support them as they go through the system.
Based in Plymouth city centre, we provide advice, support, education, IT facilities and a friendly communal space for asylum seekers in the region. DCRS are so excited to have been given the opportunity to work in collaboration with the second year Interior Design students from Plymouth College of Art to revamp our centre. The students will draw up cost-effective designs to give our space the face-lift that it deserves so that our service users, staff and volunteers can feel more comfortable and relaxed in our centre. We will then be able to select a winning design and with the money we raise, begin to make the suggested changes. We hope to be able to enter 2019 with a fresh redesign, that will inspire not only our service users, but our staff and volunteers alike.
It is so important for us to create a welcoming environment as people using our service come from some of the most oppressive and dangerous countries in the world. To claim asylum in the UK is to seek protection from persecution in your country of origin. People using our service have asked for protection but have not yet been recognised as refugees, either because they are waiting for a decision or because they have been refused. It often takes many months to get a decision on an asylum claim and some people end up waiting years without their case even being considered. We are fortunate to be able to offer our service users the opportunity to participate in English Classes, IT Suite, Clothing Store, Emergency Food Support and other social activities. Our space is multifunctional and we believe it truly deserves a little love and attention so that we can continue to focus on supporting and advising asylum seekers in the region.
