Aim

Scotland apologised for the witch trials. Apology is not reparation. Now, we’re reclaiming a church and restoring it as a centre for women.

In 2022, the Church of Scotland issued a formal apology for its role in the historic persecution of those accused of witchcraft.

Most of them were women.

The apology was important. It named something that had gone unspoken for centuries.

But in any process of restoration, acknowledgement is only the first step.

The question that follows is:

what would repair look like?

This project is an answer to that question.

Reclaim the Church is the first act of a wider initiative called The Reparation.

We are raising funds to reclaim a church building and restore it as a space for women’s leadership, education and gathering. A place where women can come together, not in fear or silence, but in connection, clarity and authority.

This is not just about a building.

It is about restoring something that was suppressed for generations.

About creating a physical space where women’s voices, bodies, and leadership are not only welcomed, but centred.

We are also inviting the Church of Scotland to take a further step.

To gift a church building for this purpose.

And at the same time, we are building the fund to reclaim and restore one regardless.

Because this work does not depend on permission.

It has already begun.

The first contributions have already been made.

And this space - this act of restoration - is coming into being.
