Aim

Clifton CC are looking to raise funds for a new pavilion after a devastating water leak rendered the previous facility irreparable

Who are we?

We are Clifton CC, located in Mid Bedfordshire at the Claybridge Ground on the outskirts of the village. We are not just a cricket club, but a focal point for our lovely community to enjoy the great outdoors and previously used our grounds / facility for local events / private bookings etc.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are Crowdfunding as we need to raise a considerable amount of money for a new pavilion building after a devastating internal water leak destroyed the previous pavilion, which was a war time mess hut, that was brought down to Clifton CC in the 1980's and has been loving looked after and restored with all its rustic charm, by dedicated members / locals over the last 40+ years. Due to its wooden construction, the water damage has rendered the building irreparable and uninsurable, leaving the cricketers without a facility to change and socialise as well as the locals to come and enjoy summer evenings / private functions / local groups.

We have set up a sub committee - comprised of ex and current members of Clifton Cricket Club to spearhead the task of raising £330,000 to complete the funding required to build the new facility, to ECB technical guidelines, but can also be a facility the whole community can enjoy in and outside of cricket season.

How we’ll spend the money raised

The money raised will go to support the building of the pavilion which will be managed and completed in 4 stages:

Ø   Phase 1 - Groundworks and foundations

Ø   Phase 2 - Superstructure including roof and windows

Ø   Phase 3 - Internal fit out

Ø   Phase 4 - Finishes

The club already has the money to complete the first stage of demolition and groundworks/foundations but still a significant gap of £330,000 of which we are exploring every available avenue of grant application and utilising our membership and supporters to join us and contribute with their own fundraising efforts. Any funding raised throughout this project which exceeds the target, will continue to be invested into further stages of development of the pavilion and surrounding landscaping etc. If/when we reach £15,000, our fundraising effort will be matched by Sport England’s Movement Fund.

Community impact

Our cricket club as ~120 members from the ages of 7-70 and continues to grow annually, whilst some other local cricket clubs have struggled to maintain sides or a club at all, Clifton CC has gone from strength to strength with a dedicated volunteer leadership at the helm engaging the local community from Clifton and neighbouring towns / villages.

We are working very closely with Cricket East, our regional cricket board, on a potential new partnership as a result of this facility development also, which would see Clifton CC being a local 'centre of excellence'; helping to showcase the latest young talent within Bedfordshire and providing them with a stage to perform and thrive.

As mentioned, it is not all about the cricket. The club has great relationships with local community groups and schools and businesses also. We have held many a Bedfordshire Young Farmers event, RAF event and WI event to name a few. We've also helped raised money for charities such as the Road Victims Trust (RVT) & Sarcoma UK. The club itself runs the biggest annual event in the village - The Clifton CC Duck race which attracts hundreds if not thousands of people far and wide happens every July and is a great advert for the village, let alone the club.

We also have personal trainers and other small businesses/groups utilise the ground throughout the year which all adds to the community spirit.
