Help us raise £25,000 to bring solar to the MMI, lower our running costs and support a more sustainable future for this much-loved building.
St Agnes Miners & Mechanics’ Institute has been part of village life for generations.
Today, it’s home to gigs, theatre, classes, celebrations, community events, coffee, meetings, workshops and countless everyday moments that bring people together.
Now we’re looking ahead to a more sustainable future for the building.
We’re raising £25,000 to help bring solar panels to the MMI, lower our running costs and make the building less exposed to rising energy prices.
Like many community buildings, the MMI faces significant ongoing running costs. Energy is one of the biggest pressures, and reducing those costs is one of the most practical improvements we can make.
Installing solar panels would help us:
This isn’t just about putting solar panels on a roof. It’s about making a sensible, long-term investment in a building that means a great deal to this community.
The full solar project is expected to cost around £50,000.
This includes the solar panel installation, required surveys and associated works needed to make the project happen safely and properly.
Our Crowdfunder target is £25,000, which would take us a significant step towards making the project possible. The MMI will also be contributing from its own reserves, and we’ll continue exploring other funding opportunities to help close the remaining gap.
“This campaign is about making a practical improvement that will benefit the MMI for years to come. Solar will help us cut electricity costs, reduce our carbon footprint and put the building on a stronger, more sustainable footing.”
Hilary Owen, Chair of Trustees
The MMI has always adapted. From its origins as a place for miners and mechanics to learn, gather and connect, to its role today as a busy community hub, the building has kept changing with the needs of St Agnes.
Solar feels like the next practical step.
It won’t solve every challenge, but it will help us reduce our running costs, make better use of the roof above us, and put the building on a more sustainable path.
Please donate if you can. Every contribution, big or small, will help us move closer to bringing solar to the MMI.
You can also support the campaign by sharing this page with friends, family, neighbours, local businesses and anyone who cares about the MMI.
Your support today powers a greener MMI tomorrow.
