Izzy, Robin and Mason have been making music together since childhood. In 2018, we began writing for racecar, setting out to combine our favourite elements of music with a dedication to detail and unconstrained creativity.
In 2021 we recorded Orange Car; our debut album and the culmination of three years' songwriting, released in June 2022. Orange Car has since received an overwhelmingly positive response (to our delight!). We have toured the album around Scotland and Ireland, recorded live sessions for The Scotsman and featured in Scots Whay Hae and Fiona Liddell/ BBC Rapal's best music of 2022 features.
“Mining from every corner of contemporary pop[...] racecar make it sound almost effortless, leading us to question why anyone would contrict themselves to just one style or genre anyway” Tallah Brash, The Skinny
“Orange Car is a confidently ambitious debut from a band who show no signs of slowing down” Scottish Music Network
“[Orange Car] boasts moments of love larger than any worldly objects, and tiny pulses of the heart that could destroy entire sound systems. Simultaneously the most consistent, confident, and fresh-sounding album of its year” JoLeKosovo, rateyourmusic
Our debut single, Flood, was chosen on release as BBC Introducing's Track of the Week. [spotify link]

We are now thrilled to be working on our second album, Pink Car!
We self-financed the creation and release of our first album at a personal cost of approximately £7,500.
Despite being very proud of Orange Car, we were ultimately limited by financial constraints. The Pink Car demo tracks that we have already recorded show huge promise and we believe that this music deserves to be realised to its full potential and are asking for your help to make this a reality!
We are delighted that our project is part of the 2023 Creative Scotland Crowdmatch competition. Creative Scotland will match individual pledges from the crowd up to £10,000, and will match any individual pledge up to £250 like-for-like. So if you donate £20 to our cause, your donation will be matched with a £20 pledge from Creative Scotland, effectively doubling your donation!
Building a Pink Car
In creating Pink Car, we want to be able to work with a variety of local musicians and creators, and pay them all fairly for their work. We will therefore use any money raised for the following:
Studio time: we recorded Orange Car in Izzy’s mum’s living room but this time would like to take advantage of the superior equipment and expert input available in a professional studio. Estimated cost: £2,000.
Session musician hire: we would like to include more musicians on this second album, including a full brass band(!) and a string section. Estimated cost: £2,000.
Mixing and mastering: the more we raise, the more time we can spend in the studio making sure the album sounds as good as possible. Estimated cost: £2,500.
Promotion: once we have created the album, we want to make sure as many people as possible get to hear it, which means paying for professional promotion as well as our own efforts. Estimated cost: £4,000.
Music videos: we would like to make our first music videos to accompany the six singles we have selected from this album, hiring videographers and filmmakers. Estimated cost: £7,500.
Album launch: We would like to work with a variety of musicians and engineers to create our most ambitious set yet at the album launch, and to bring the songs of Pink Car to life in a live setting. Estimated cost: £2,000.
Help us to realise Pink Car and receive fabulous rewards!
