Aim

The aim of the project is to bring a community together by linking two iconic local landmarks - challenging ourselves physically & mentally!

Pier to Pier started with a pretty simple idea: get a group of good people together, take on a slightly ridiculous challenge between two brilliant local landmarks, and use it to raise money for causes that mean something to us.

The idea originally came from a conversation between Dan from The Hangar and Steph Caulfield about doing something to support people going through IVF. From there, The Hangar got involved, the Grand Pier and Clevedon Pier came on board, and Pier to Pier was born.

In year one, a relatively small founding group walked and ran between Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier and Clevedon Pier and together raised £3,500.

More importantly, it felt like something worth doing again.

So, in 2026, we’re making it bigger.

On Saturday 26 September, up to 50 people will take on either 13 miles from Clevedon Pier to Weston, or the full 26-mile journey from Weston to Clevedon and back again. It isn’t a race. People can walk, run, do a bit of both, and complete it at their own pace.

Our target this year is £5,000.

The money raised will be split between two causes.

Half will support people and couples facing the enormous financial pressures that can come with trying to start a family through IVF.

The other half will support The Hangar’s community projects.

The Hangar is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company based in Weston-super-Mare. Alongside being a gym, we use movement, coaching and community to create opportunities for people who might otherwise struggle to access them. That includes work with young people, older adults, families and people rebuilding their confidence, independence and connection with others.

Money raised through Pier to Pier helps us make more of that work possible. It can help pay for coaching, subsidise or provide free places, and give us the freedom to create projects around local people who need them rather than only around those who can afford them.

Our bigger vision is for Pier to Pier to become an annual community challenge that belongs to Weston and Clevedon: something people train for together, complete together and use to generate a meaningful pot of money for local causes every year.

Two piers. A lot of tired legs. And hopefully a lot of good done along the way.
